Ferrari F50 TDF Blue

Hi Everyone,

Heres one of my lastest WIPs that I thought I would share with you all.
Tamiyas superb F50 (re-release with slightly more flash than before).
I'm also going to be using Crazy Modelers Photoetched set, with 4 frets full of detail, except any suspension detail...
Colour is Zero Paints "Ferrari Tour De France Blue" which I fell in love with when I saw Pics of an FXX painted the same colour racing around some track, & thought that would look great on an F50.

Ive always loved the F50 & got to have a good look at one in Maranello 2years ago. Paint is so thin you can see the kevlar weave in the paint!!! Beautiful in the flesh!!!!

Anyway enough words, let the pictures do the talking.

First coat

Final basecoat

Outside pic with 1K clearcoat unpolished - The clear really brought the colour to life

Now some months later, Ive polished her, still needs a bit of a clean

Some of the interior parts - No the seats are not in their final colour
I decided to use SMS Kevlar for all the CF work instead of the kits

Some of the other parts being painted

Exhausts were stripped with Easy Off & ive painted them Chrome

And these are the wheels I'm using, Scale Productions 18" GT3

Ive been working on some of the Metal parts & will have another update soon.

Re: Ferrari F50 TDF Blue

Hey Everybody

Ive got a few more Pics of my progress. Mostly been working on the metal stuff.

Chromed Exhaust - my first time using Alclad II - LOVE IT!!
Still needs some weathering

Radatiors - easier than I thought they would be to put together

A whole bunch of metal stuff, some Lambo pieces too

Interior Rubber Mats, will probly paint them in Tamiyas Rubber TS spray

Wipers - still need some work (F50 on right)

The Brakes, very detailed set, beautifully done too

The Hardest Part, the rear mesh. Etched on thin metal, bends pretty easy. I simply placed it over the plastic kit part (before I cut it) and it almost snapped in when bent in the middle, theres a tiny molded ridge on the plastic part & it just snapped in there. Cutting the plastic was tricky, very fragile, broke it twice, still may remove some material under the lights, so far I think ive spent about 8 hours (3 of which was the Surviver final - yes our TV is THAT far behind) on it last week with files & sanding sticks

Thats it for now, let me know what you think.
Next up is the engine & finishing all the parts showed here
Thanks - Ash

Nice progress so far. I have yet to try Alcad II. Does it lay down smooth, or do you get a bit of orange peel?

Re: Ferrari F50 TDF Blue

how did the CF decals work out for you? did you soak them in water or no? I tried applying mine to the doors and they cracked and broke apart... is that normal? i thought it was at first but after further inspection it doesnt seem like it is...

i love the color btw, im working on a f40, f50 and f60 currently and havent decided on the color for the f50... this might be it

Ah those were the days, when Tamiya released Full view versions... I see now theyve released an FXX & GTR with Clear bonnets, theyll prob do the same with the DBS & SLR. A full view F50 would definetly benefit from this PE set, theres alot of detail in the radiators & theyll mostly be hidden.

Thanks, Alcad II is spirit based & isnt like normal paint, its Super thin!! I was sceptal at first but now Im not, its definetly worth its cost. Youll only get orange peel if your black has orange peel in it. You could polish it then spray the Alcad if you have orange peel

Thanks!!! I didnt use the kit decals, they look slightly wrong & i had a horror of a time doing them on my first F50, so after watching Alex Kustov's (360 Spider) amazing F50 build, I used the same Kevlar from Scale Motorsports, went down pretty easy, & I love the colour combo of metallic brown & blue; it just works for some reason..

Thanks!!!! Yeah I'd already built a red one (not well) but didnt like the yellow or black. Ferrari released it in 4 colours, Red, Yellow, Black & Grey. Grey looked pretty cool, but after seeing a TDF Blue FXX i fell in love. Ive still got half of the paint left & cant wait to do my next Ferrari in the same colour.

I've been pretty busy lately so dont have anything to show, but the brakes are coming along nicely.
Thanks again
Ash

Re: Ferrari F50 TDF Blue

WOW this is exactly what I was going to work on next (except that I went with candy blue instead),until I picked up a 360 modena. Nice work so far. If mine does not sell, I will get on it

Good work so far though. Im sure you have looked at Alex Kustov's build. Thats what moved me. BTW the Zero clear did make that blue look good. I have to get some of that since everyone here seems to like it.

Keep it coming

Re: Ferrari F50 TDF Blue

Hey Guys,
Well Ive finally managed to clear some space on my camera & take some progress pics. So heres a couple of the parts Ive been working on.

Engine - Still gonna add more weathering to show its age

Brake hubs & cooling fans

Exhaust - Finally got around to weathering it, I love it!!

Thats all for now, Progress has been slow but should start to pick up now...
Thanks for looking, let me know what you think!!

Ash
