no overdrive 730 &741

swapped out a motor on a 01 grand am 2.4 and i didn't drive it before i did it but now i have code 730 &741? And no last gear. Fluid looked bad and was overfilled a little. What gives?

well I did some thinking after a few hour break and what I figure is that the driver of the car is a young teenager and probably wouldn't know what gear it is in (always 3rd) and wouldn't pay attention to RPMS (4500) must have been driving it for a while like that and that is why the motor blew in the first place and threw a rod threw the block in 2 places and has brown burned fluid. (makes sense to me) so my ? what was the initial problem ? could it just be an input or output sensor?
