98 cutlass trans fluid change and flush

is there an easy way to flush the tranny fluid on a 98 cutlass? The hoses look like they are tough to get at and take off...

Re: 98 cutlass trans fluid change and flush

Is there a problem with the trans or is this just routine maintenance? In either case, I would advise only draining and removing the pan, changing the filter, checking the oil tubes (especially the one to the differential), and refilling. Flushing is risky with a trans that has higher mileage and all but unnecessary with a trans that has been regularly service, regardless of mileage.

If you are contemplating a flush due to apparent problems, that could be the worst option. It would be far better to install a drain plug in the pan and change the fluid and filter more frequently to clean up the trans.

Re: 98 cutlass trans fluid change and flush

Hi,
There is nothing wrong with the tranny. once in a while a hard shift in 2nd gear but other than that it is fine.... It has 108K and the manual says to change the fluid after 100K. If I just change the filter and the pan how many quarts should be re-added?

Regards,

Steve
