6 bolt, 7 bolt?
ok i know that the 2g's eclipse have crank walk cause if the 7 bold engine. and i know that the 1g's 6 bolt engine doesnt have crank walk, so what most dsm owners do is swap out the 2g's block for a 1'g block rite?
my question.. i dont think i can do an engin swap to full get rid of crankwalk when i get my 2g elipse gsx.. is there any way i can jus take the crank from the 1g and make it fit into the 2g's block? or am i better off trying to do the 1g's engine block swap? and if anyone has any price estimates on how much it will cost it will be appricated.. thanks 1

Its not the crank itself , I beleive. Its the thrust bearing facing in the center support that is not getting enuff oil pressure and supposedly wearing out , especially when using a heavier clutch.
Theres more than one theory on the crankwalk issue , thats one. One cure would be to raise the oil pressure , by installing a BS eliminator kit. The other cure is to install the complete 6-bolt block , which has a heavier thrust bearing , And bigger rods so you can throw more boost at it.....

The best explanation for crank walk so far is from the guys a Magnus. Its the 2G oil squirters that cause the walk. They take oil from the main bearing journal and are supposed to be closed at idle, yet sometimes they get stuck open, blah blah low oil pressure, crank shaft eats CAS and engine dies.
Doing the 6-bolt swap is cake and in my opinion much better than having the 2G oil squirters removed. Plus like Venger10 said, you get the big rods and low compression. Equals much more fun. You can get an B-shaft eliminator kit from just about any DSM vendor. buschur, RRE, turbotrix, DSS, diamon star motors. Just check around. My 6-bolt swap cost about $1300 B-shaft eliminator kits cost $60, but if you are going to install one you might as well do a motor swap, thats how hard it is to install them with the motor in the car, especially on 2G's. Plus they won't prevent crankwalk. Peace

Plus it will raise you internal block oil pressure to about 100psi or so (max) normally max is about 60 or less , and less than 10 at idle. DSM's are notorious for low oil pressure. The whole block swap would be $3000 or more , I'm sure. Including installation , hopefully.... The 1G sensor placement is much different than the 2G , I don't know what year you are working with , but after '95 the OBD-2 ECU system was in place , which uses different and more sensors than the OBD-1 ECU.... |

this is kinda discouraging
im lost now... to do the swap to a 6bolt itz $ but it will be fixed, and if i put in the balance shaft it will cost alot less but still not fix the problem.. i just want to have like 350hp@wheels of the gsx thats all but i know with the more mods the faster crankwalk occurs.. so if i get the balance shaft what exactly will it do to the crank walk and will i have to keep changing the bs elimotor? this really bites... thanks for all ur help so far 1

Removing the balance shafts is a one time deal. When you buy the car, check the crank end play to see if its in spec. If not, you found the early stages of crankwalk. Research a little and find out all the warning signs and symptoms of crankwalk. You can simply run the car until it begins walking and then save up for the swap. Cranwalk isnt an instant thing, you can still drive the car for a couple months once it sets in. Either way its a chance you take.
I'd just like to throw in that if you do search around you can find low milage 6-bolt blocks for next to nothing. I got my shortblock, 30K for 400 dollars. Head, intake, tb, everything else for another 500. Little labor from and aquaintance and boom, fully swapped for under $1500. Look at Magnus' website for info on the swap, it really is cake. I've been running it for a couple thousand miles now and nearly 8 months with no problems whatsoever. Peace
