Have you checked the condition and level of the transmission fluid on the dipstick?

Re: 2003 Taurus won't move

Something else to check: Does the shifter seem to move easier than normal? Its possible the shift cable broke inside the casing therefore no changing of the shifting at the transmission. I checked this by having someome do the shifting while I observed the shift mechanism at the transmission. When the connection didn't move when the shifter was moved, I knew then it was the cable. Had this problem a couple of years ago on my 98 Taurus. It was a bit of a pain, but was able to change out the shift cable and had no more problems since. Just a suggestion. Good Luck.

How many miles on the car? The most probable cause is the torque converter (part of the transmission).
Assuming that the shift lever moves normally.

A Windstar without having the check engine light is not a real Windstar.

Re: 2003 Taurus won't move

I had this happen to my car a couple of months ago. If I could put on the emergency brake, and then release it, I could put it in gear. Turns out, it had to do with something that ran alongside the brake, and it wasn't engaging, therefore, the car wouldn't shift. It was a simple fix, but frustrating until it got figured out.

Re: 2003 Taurus won't move

Sticky parking brake would not prevent the transaxle to shift. If the problem was that, the front wheels should be able to slip on the road even if car doesn't move, like they do in drag race.
He would still be able to feel the transaxle jerking when he selects R or D. The problem can't be that.
