Radio CD player

I have a 2002 Lincoln LS V8 and all of a sudden when I was trying to play a cd that I recorded the cd player says slots are full and cd error. There is no cds in the unit and it will not take a cd..lastly I figured something went wrong all of a sudden with the player and have now bought 2 radio and cd units from ebay that they say were tested and worked, but when I put them in the car, it still says same thing, slots full and cd error...HELP..

Do you have the in-dash 6-disc changer or a separate CD changer? If the in-dash unit I don't understand how this would happen on all three units and not be an issue with the unit (which in itself would be odd). I'd start I suppose by confirming you had good power and grounds to the unit.

My wife's 2002 had the in-dash changer, but he factory service manual for 2002 suggests there could also be a separate changer. If you have the separate changer then I'd suspect an issue in the wiring between the changer and the head unit or a power/ground issue to the changer.

A professional scan tool could also interface with the audio system and likely give you a bit better resolution as to the issue.

Thanks for the info..it is a indash cd 6 unit, i have replaced it with 2 cd/radio units plus the original and all have same problems, weird...

That is odd and I hope when you figure out what's happening you will post back here. With it being the all in one unit I don't understand what external influence could cause that. It might be interesting to try plugging it in in sections. For example, start with just plugging in the power connector. If it powers up and seems to work fine, then plug the antenna in and see if things change, then the steering wheel control connector, then subwoofer connector, and so on. Maybe you'll find that a bad clockspring for the steering wheel buttons can cause the error you are getting.

Will any of the units you have play store bought cds? You did say that it's doing this with a cd that you recorded. If it plays store bought, then the problem more than likely is how you are burning them. I've had this issue with dvds. Self burned ones would work only is certain devices and not in others.

There is a warning in the owners manual about using non factory recorded disc's:

"CD units are designed to play commercially pressed 12 cm (4.75 in) audio compact discs only.

Due to technical incompatibility, certain recordable and re-recordable compact discs may not function correctly when
used in Ford CD players. Irregular shaped CDs, CDs with a scratch protection film attached, and CDs with homemade paper
(adhesive) labels should not be inserted into the CD player. The label may peel and cause the CD to become jammed. It is
recommended that homemade CDs be identified with permanent felt tip marker rather than adhesive labels. Ballpoint pens may damage CDs."
