Interior Lights, Radio, and Power Locks not Working. 94 Grand Caravan

I was in the process of putting in a new stereo system in my 94 Dodge Grand Caravan when something I did caused the radio, the interior lights and the automatic locks to stop working.

I stupidly did not disconnect the battery, and I put in the new harnesses before connecting them to the new stereo. I think some of the wires crossed or something and the interior lights went out. After that, the power locks didn't work, the radio wouldn't come on along with none of the interior lights coming on.

I checked the fuses, they are all good. I checked to make sure power was getting to the fuses, and it is.

I am thinking I might have fried the remote keyless entry dealy located above the radio. Would this possibly cause the interior lights, the radio and the locks to not work? Or is it possibly something completely different?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

I forgot to mention that the interior lights, power locks and radio were all working before I attempted to replace the radio.

You may have induced a fault in the Body Control Computer. It controls most of the electrical accessory systems. Try disconnecting the battery for a minute or so then reconnect it. Beyond that I don't have a clue. This computer seams to be a common problem in GCs. There are many other threads on this subject. Maybe you can get another clue there. Cheers!

I just did the same thing. My mechanic also said I should try the battery disconnect for the reset like RIP indicated. It didn't work.

I did find the problem though. There is a small 10A fuse at the top of the power distribution centre in position 28 (Ignition Off Draw). This was blown.

When I replaced the fuse, the keyless entry worked, the interior lights worked, the power locks worked and even better my Alpine stereo worked.

Best of luck.

Thumbs up Re: Re: Interior Lights, Radio, and Power Locks not Working. 94 Grand Caravan

Hey KM, I had the same problem in my '95 Caravan....interior lights, radio, and door locks not working....on the '95, the Ignition Off Draw fuse is a 15 amp fuse in the Power Distribution Center next to the battery under the hood....I replaced the 15 amp fuse and, low and behold, the problem was fixed....you saved me the cost of a mechanic trying to trouble shoot this problem.... no telling what he would have charged me or even if he would have discovered the solution.

Thanks!!!

Hey I know this is YEARS later but thought I would post my reply too. I also had the same problem...plus remote mirrors would not work and altmeter (voltage gauge) would not work. I checked under the dash and could not find a "interior lights" fuse. I even looked under the hood but did not find a Light fuse never in a million years would I have thought The" Ignition off draw" fuse was the fuse for the interior stuff. WHAT a STRANGE place to put the fuse for the interior lighting..and what a STRANGE thing to name it.

Ya, I would have thought they could have come up with a better name. In a way though it does make sense. That fuse is the main power source for the Body Control Module or BCM. The BCM controls all of the accessories on the van. Power is applied at all times even when the key if off to keep it's memory alive. Therefore the BCM is "drawing" power with the "ignition off". This fuse is left out from the factory then reinstalled at the dealerships to keep from draining the battery during shipment.

Disconnecting the battery or pulling the "IOD" fuse out for 2-3 minutes is a common fix for the problems highlighted in this thread and others. Either action resets the BCM. Course if the fuse is blown then it's irrelevant.
