Will a Distributor cap & rotor kit off a 96 Impala SS work on a 94 Chevy Caprice 4.3 Engine?

Re: Distributor cap & rotor

Yes. All the B- and D-car distributor caps and rotors were the same from 1995-96 for both L99 and LT1. The Opti itself changed a bit in the area of the drive pin and rear seal but the cap is the same. I've had good luck with the Borg-Warner replacement unit (C400).

Re: Distributor cap & rotor

Not sure what SS model you have. If it is the full size rear wheel drive, it will have an LT1 350 engine. The cap will not work and the rotor will work on a 4.3 V6.

the 94 distributor was not vented by engine vacuum. 1995-96 they used a system that has a filter/checkvalve/restrictor that allows a purging of gases inside the distrubutor to improve on life of the componets in side the cap area.

the internet has detailed info and pictures that will help in installing this mod , to make it like , the last more reliable version.

when you open it up you will see it is different. It is possible this mod has been done already.

My distributor is vent. It has the vent tube harness.

if you do then you should have no problems on this fitting.

since this is being replaced make sure that this hose does vent the cap. remove the hose at the distributor that goes to the vacuum/filter restrictor units. place a vacuum guage on this hose start engine , you should get good vacuum ...it should slowly rise . if not find out why.

the restrictor/filter units have failed by getting plugged then the distributor cap and the other componets get damaged from these corrosive damaging gases produced from the arcing.

this filter is directional so make sure its pointing in the correct direction.

the other hose goes to the air ducting to the throttle body.

Re: Distributor cap & rotor

God the amount of incorrect information on forums just keeps getting worse.

The 94-96 b-bodies and d-bodies all used the later vented distributor, does not matter if they were the L99 4.3l V8 or the LT1, or the super magical Impala SS

up into 94 the Vette and f-bodies got the early unvented opti.

Don't argue with me on this either as I currently own a 94 and two 96s and got rid on a 95 in the last year. One of the 96s I have owned over 10 years came with a 4.3l V8(now has a LT1) too so I really have a better handle on this than the goobers here who can read or maybe rather missread a Haynes manual.

Can I just clean my Vent Harness Tube, or where can I buy one at?

you inspect the hose for defects . since this is quite old now replace the inline filter/restrictor.

what ? clean the vacuum hose ? that is not a factor.

the filter / restrictor is not serviceable. just make sure it works using a vacuum guage .

Amen, sir.

For the OP, I think I posted the answer in the first reply. I have a '94 SS, and a '96 SS. Yes the distributors are different across the years, but the distributor cap and rotor are the SAME.
