engine trouble light is lit

Hello to all,

This past weekend I had noticed my "engine trouble" light was activated and getting a code of P0305 which indicates my no. 5 cylinder didn't fire for some reason. OK I just had a 85K service on my 01' Durango V-8 and nothing bad was told to me so thinking of that in mind I thought it was a fluke. I went ahead and reset the trouble light and took it for a spin on the freeway and all seemed well. Could this be a circumstance/fluke or a bad thing. If the computer activates again then I'll seriously take it back to the dealership and have the motor scooped. Does this sound OK prudent to you guys??? Again so far everything appears to be fine.

Yes it's a good start. If the light does come back and you have the same code it could be a bad plug or wire. Doubtfull that could have been for seen with the service.

AutoService101,

Thank you for your fast reply! You only a few people that has the same positive attitude as I do. On another forum devoted just for Dakotas and Durangos they say my cylinder might be dead or the plug and wires are gone causing gas to be pumped into the cylinder and now gas is mixing with my oil. really WILD ideas that doesn't appear to totally possible in my issue. Again so far noting has resurfaced yet and will take it out for another spin on the California freeway this weekend. If the light doesn't activate again then I'll assume it was a fluke and move on. After all eventhough it has allot of computer control even the engine is not absolute. Gee wiz what a panic these other guys can cause.

Thanks again,

Thats really all you can do. If it recodes see if it is the same code. Could be a spark plug or wire. I believe on that vehcile if a coil was bad you would have a missfire on two cylinders (not 100% on that one but pretty sure). Those would be the to likely issues. Does not sound like it is running bad so those other guys are blowing smoke up you tail pipe! You can check what they are saying though by pulling the dipstick and smelling the oil, if gas was leaking down you would be able to smell it in the oil. I would say that is pretty doubtfull either way.

AutoService101,
Yeah that forum Dakota-Durango.com those guys sound like they know everything about the issues and when you don't do it their way they seems to get kinda violent in they're wording. I try to take every opinion into consideration before making any final decision before spending money at the repair shop.

That's to bad those guys are like that, makes you wonder why. I totaly know where you are coming from about getting as much info as you can. It's hard to believe some of these shops. I always say that knowledge is Power!
Has the light come back on???

AutoService101,

My feelings exactly. Anyway time to move on so this weekend I'll give it a spin and see what the computer tells me. If I don't get back to you then problem/issue solved.
