Do you have spark and fuel pressure at the injector rail, this is just basic diagnostics.

Can you honk the horn with the lights on?
It's prpbably a bad battery cable or ground.

Re: 92 Lumina will not start

You need 37 psi at the rail only a fp tester will confirm this.

Re: 92 Lumina will not start

well it started and ran great for about a wk or so after sitting for a day....my brother put all new coils and it tested that my map sensor and throttle sensor was bad 2nd time on throttle sensor so we replaced those and it had been doing good until this morning on my way to work then it just died again...it was if i turned the key off..the only light that came on was the volt light and it would not start up once again im really getting frustrated with this car...so many new parts and it still wants to quit.

Re: 92 Lumina will not start

If it is still not starting or the next it decides to do this, pull the 6wire plug from the ignition control module ( the piece that the coils attach to) and try starting it. Let me know what happens.

Re: 92 Lumina will not start

When the car dies, it's like there's no battery for the fuel pump, ECU, ignition, and all of the control modules.

Honking the horn with lights working, tells me there enough battery power for the engine to run.
IF NOT -
1) How old is your battery?
2) If>4years replace battery
3) Have your battery charged + load tested
4) Make sure your battery terminals and cables are clean and tight.

Re: 92 Lumina will not start

It turns out that the coils my bro put on the car is not performing like they should...they only put out 5 when it should be 8 so today he is coming down to take them back and get new ones...also the new battery *not even a month old* had a bad cell in it so they replaced that as well..hopefully after this my car will be ok again.

Re: 92 Lumina will not start

Hey eveyone. Newbie here, just wanted to give some advise on the Lumina. I just went through this two weeks ago. Same problem,i replaced coil packs, ignition module under coil packs, and even a new computer!! I was ready to put fire to it!!! But i seached and found that it could be the Crankshaft Position Sensor. BINGO!!! That's what it was! As soon as i replaced it (Hard to get to,on back side of engine near the firewall,a couple inches above the oilpan) it fired right up!! Been driving for two weeks now,no problems! even took a 3 hour road trip, still going smooth!! I hope this helps out! Don.
