Ok I have no ideas on where to go with this one. I have a 92 cavalier that I did an engine and trans replace on. The engine and trans are from a 93 cavalier. Today is the first day i drove the car and it idled and ran fine for about 20 minutes then started surging. When I went to put it in reverse to back into my parking spot it died on me and will not even crank over. Battery is fully charged. I can shift through the gears in the car but nothing happens by the trans. I replaced the shifter cable two weeks ago before I drove this car. Also after driving the car for about 15 minutes when I take off from a stop light it would rev to 4,000 rpm and then start to move. It would take about 3 blocks for it to get up to speed with the pedal about 3/4 of the way pushed down. Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jason |

Re: 92 Chevy Cavalier no start
Any trouble codes? Check engine light?
I have a 1999 Cavalier. There is a speed sensor mounted passenger side under the Half axle drive of the trans. Yours is probably mounted somewhere else. Look for it. Prior to my engine blow-up, the oil change place disconnected it. Why? They said so they can get the filter. Yeah, right? Anyway, my car behaved like you say. I reconnected it and was fine until found they messed with my PCM too. Reason for my headache I have now. Can't prove it but never going there again. Went once a month for my car and the normal 3 - 4 months for my wife's and kids. I tell everyone I know to stay away from EZ lube. Not the first time they messed my car. Left the over flow bottle cap off and closed the hood. Nice round circle where the cap was. I drove across the driveway and parked. Saw it. I lost it with them. Also previous things too. So that's how I know to Look for your speed sensor. Probably disconnected or came loose. Last edited by Jmrec100; 09-12-2010 at 05:47 PM. |
