power windows
Okay, for a while now 3 out of 4 of my windows would not roll down (drivers side the only one that worked), so yesterday, I removed the panel and looked at the wires. Not sure what I was suppose to be looking at, but everything looked fine, didn't see any kinks or broken wires. Jiggle them a bit and tried the windows, nothing. I can hear a clicking noise when I depress the switch. So this morning, I get in and crank the car, and play with the switches and low and behold, the back passenger window rolls down. Any ideas what's going on or what I need to look for? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: power windows
What year is your Taurus? Did you check the wires in the harness between the door and the cabin? That seems to be a weak point for wires/connectors. Depending on the model year your car may have a large multi-pin connector there.

Re: power windows
It is a 2000. I looked at the wires coming from the switch and I didn't notice any that were damaged. Also, I wasn't sure how to disconnect them, so I could lay the panel down and check them all out.

Re: power windows
Take the panels off, give the motors a little rap with a wrench, or whatever, while depressing the switch. See if they work. If they do, replace the motors. Otherwise they'll fail most assuredly when the window is down. The motors were very susceptible to corrosion from water and dampness, especially the rears. Watch your interior lighting while depressing the switches, any dimming indicates your circuits are good. In my case, it was always the motors that were bad. Your results may vary.

Re: power windows
I've had this problem with my Windstar a couple times. Both times I sprayed a good amount of electrical contact cleaner under the switches using the straw and after a day or so the switches started working fine again. it's worth a shot anyway.

Re: power windows
If you lost all the switches at once, there's a good chance that it's the main switch panel. Just go to a salvage yard to get a replacement, should only be like $15-20. If you lost them one at a time it might be broken wires in the harness between the door and body. Cut the tie that holds the rubber boot to the door connector and pull it down and check for broken, frayed, or kinked wires all the way to the door frame. My were almost inside the car and drove my crazy tryng to find it.
