I need a little help deciding which clutch to get for when I finally do my B16 swap in about 3 months. For you guys already trying out different clutch brands on B16a2's let me know. Also, which kind of flywheel would be best with what setups? Thanks in advance for the advice!

I like authentic Exedy clutches but I hear good things about ACT. Do yourself a favor and research the flywheels, may people get shafted with the cheap ones.

Go with the act and get a zex flywheel. It is really a jun its chromolly and wont shatter or crack like aluminum. They come in 10 and 8 pound models. The lighter the fly wheel the quicker the car will will rev but it will be harder to take off in. So if you road race/auto cross go with the 8 but if you drag race the 10 will be a good median.

I thought a lighter flywheel helped acceleration cuz that is one les thing the engine has to work hard to get turning.
but a lighter flywheel does take away gas mileage right? cuz there isnt that inertia that used to help keep your car rolling.

It doesent help acceleration because it has less inertia to get the car rolling.thats why drag cars run very heavy flywheels to help them launch harder.I cant tell a loss in mpg due to my flywheel.

are you sure about that, isnt inerta an object in motion stays in motion, so that wouldnt help it. it doesnt even have inertia til it is spinning(which i know it is when you launch, but not very fast), then the inertia keeps it spinning. so when you are going down the freeway, the heavy wheel keeps you moving cuz it wants to stay spinning. and off the line, anything you can do to reduce what the engine has to get moving, like lighter wheels, no accessorys, lighter car, ?lighter flywheel?) puts more power to where you want it, the wheels on the track(well I know you dont get more power, but it is more efficient or something). at least thats how I believed it to be. Im not saying your wrong, cuz Im not sure Im right, but it doesnt sound right to me.
anyone else agree with him, if your right though it will save me 275 bucks since I dont want one anymore.

a lighter flywheel allows the car to accelerate faster because acceleration is directly related to mass => f=ma. if you want acceleration to go up, with the same force, the mass has to go down.
the reason pro drag racers use heavy flywheels is because the last thing they want to do is stall out at the beginning of a race, let alone during it. the heavy flywheel forces the motor to spin at relatively constant speeds, regardless of what kind of load is placed on it. at the beginning of the race, that load is very large. the heavey flywheel also helps when shifting, because the motor does not slow down, but instead stays at relatively the same rpms while the clutch is depressed. this allows the shifts to be smoother allowing the wheels to stay attached to the ground and the tranny to last longer. if you are going to do auto-x racing, a light clutch will be beneficial since there are relatively few times to shift and its not entirely based on how well you launched off the line. the lighter flywheel will allow you to accelerate faster during short straight aways, along with letting you use the motor to slow down before the next turn. if you are doing drag racing, you will want a slightly heavier clutch than the auto-x clutch, for the same reasons as the pro drag racers. hope that helps.
