4L60 Transmission in a Suburban
Hey everyone I obviously this is not really caprice related but this is really the only forum I have ever dealt with when it comes to cars and I figure this is just a general question so here it is.
My cousin has a 90s (not sure of actual year but I believe its around a 95-96) Suburban 1500 4x4. He was having problems with the transmission where (as described to me) it was having trouble shifting into 4th gear so he is unable to reach higher speeds. Basically to sum it up 3/4 people said it was electronic and one said they would have to take the trans apart and reassemble to see if the trans is the problem. After having a price quoted of 500 just to disassemble and find the problem and around 1200 to rebuild and reinstall the trans my cousin decided to just replace it. My first question is the 4L60 the trans in the 1500? Second are their other transmissions that will fit his truck? |

1500 uses the 4l60. loosing 3/4 th gear is usually the transmission needs rebuilding..it is possible the valves can be reworked to overcome the wear. the bore wears out and then the pressure drops causing this type failure. special tools to reamout these bores and using the repair kit some have had success. thats if you can find a shop with this knowledge ! |
