'05 Sub, time to change coolant what to use?
I need to change out the coolant in my '05 Sub. Do I want to continue to use Dex-Cool or should I do complete flush and change to a different coolant like a G05 base?
Is Dex-Cool as bad as I read about corroision wise if it is maintained? or only when neglected. Thanks. |

If you use distilled water with 60% dexcool which is computed with your total capacity of 4.5gallons total you will have no problems. to drain the 4.5gallons is not an easy job but possible. flushing the system with the thermostat removed , then draining the 4.5gallons of coolant then install the 2.5gallons of Dexcool to the 1.5gallons of distilled water with a new thermostat . separately force flush the heater core, remove hoses at engine not firewall.. removal and acid [cleaner] washing of the plastic tank is recommended , then clean with some baking soda and water to prep for install/use. since 1996 I have been using dexcool , I have never had any issues with this product..I have however seen and had to repair vehicles that had systems damaged by owners and repair shops/lube centers mixing non dexcool with these systems which results in a lot of damage...very hard to clean out this mess of black goo ... IF IT DOES NOT STATE GM APPROVED DEXCOOL, IT IS NOT DEXCOOL ! |

Re: '05 Sub, time to change coolant what to use?
the radiator cap was changed to increase coolant capacity and most importantly to reduce spillage. also no recovery bottle required.
filling this type of system takes some time for air purging...when topping off you must have the engine running to vent air out.. |
