Few questions.. Wires and drains..

As you all know these vans have wire issues.. Ive been chasing down wire problems since day one.. Well I have a new issue..

Right behind the drivers seat on the floor there is a box that goes outside and a few plugs plug into the box.. The connectors there are messed up from being wet.. My van will run and drive then randomly it will die.. Sometimes you can pull over and it will restart other times your have to climb under and play with the wires. Ive checked a few local places and no luck finding a new one or a good used. One local shop told me to just take out the box and just hard wire the wires together.. Has anyone done this.. any problems you could see doing this??

Also I do get water down both sides of my van.. Ive been told to check the drains by the front windshield. I took apart the black plastic parts that are there but i can not see any drains. Where do i need to look to be sure there clear..

Re: Few questions.. Wires and drains..

You could just hard wire the wires together. The connector is there for ease of installation in the factory. I would use the sealing type of butt connectors to keep the water out for good.

Re: Few questions.. Wires and drains..

Thats the fuel pump wire harness, just solder the wires together, might have to splice some new wire in... Good luck.

Re: Few questions.. Wires and drains..

Well started pulling it all apart today.. Man whats a cluster f..

Have all the wires cut and put back together.. However alot of them are no longer cooper colored but black.. So I will be replacing a bunch of them. My gas gauge hasnt been working lately so I am going to drop the tank tomorrow and replace all the wires going to the sending unit.. Im thinking the sending unit is bad but I want to drop the tank to be sure the plug isnt bad on the tank.. Im goign to tear back into the pass side front wires as well to see if i can get my driver info center and power door working again..Any one know the exact wires that go to those two?

Re: Few questions.. Wires and drains..

If you want just the sender, check out RockAuto.com to see if they carry the mech, would be cheaper than the whole pump assembly.

If the wires are black, strip them back untill they are copper colored and splice new wire in its place, soldering is best....

Good luck..... :-)

Re: Few questions.. Wires and drains..

I found auto zone has a universal sender for around 20 bucks.. Still not sure if its going to be just wires or what yet as alot of the wire is black now.. So we will see..

Re: Few questions.. Wires and drains..

Well replaced all the wires and everything seems to be working. The gas gauge is no longer pegged on full and the van runs great.. We will be testing it all weekend to be sure its all good.. Tonight I plan on tearing back into the pass side wire harness to find out why my D.I.C. dont work..

Re: Few questions.. Wires and drains..

phatmitsu-had the same problem with that *&%^$# box. Such a stupid design by GM, almost as bad as the power door lock wires under the passenger carpet, just spliced and taped together! The wires in that box control the fuel pump, the sender, and the EVAP solenoid for the charcoal canister, so be sure you get good connections on all of them as any slight resistance will cause your SES light to come on (and possibly fail your emission inspection, as I did).

Re: Few questions.. Wires and drains..

Well I cut the wires about 2 feet into the car and replaced the wires all the way to the pump. I soldered everything and heat shrinked it followed by tape and wire loom.. So yeah I over did it a little..lol..

Now I just have to finish the pass side wires to get my Driver info center working again.. I really need to figure out where the darn water is coming from.. My pass floor is soaked right now.. Its been raining and I washed it today..

Re: Few questions.. Wires and drains..

The drain tube for the AC box usually plugs up and causes it to back up into the passenger side floor...... Good luck, sounds like you did one heck of a repair to the wiring tho..... :-)

Re: Few questions.. Wires and drains..

Hello there,
Have you found the location of the drain?
I am having the same problem, wet carpet on driver and passager side. Lift the carpet and about 1"inch of water, LOL
Looked under the car for for the drain line and I just don't see anywere..
Were did you find yours and did you access it from the inside or outside?
Thanks
Joe
