Electronic Throttle Control

Grandson called me this AM (dad i9n IRAQ) and sod his 2005 4.0 V6 was running rough and erratic and was coding electronic throttle control (his words, and does this car give a readout on the dash for codes). I told him to take it to the dealer as the car has an extended warranty, but is this a common issue with this car?

Re: Electronic Throttle Control

Not common that I am aware of. Your grandson should try to get you exact codes from now on. Descriptions of the codes vary from person-to-person and device-to-device. There's several codes that be refer to the electronic throttle control.

But if you are worried that the runaway Toyota problem is going to happen, don't worry. Ford's programming has not been found to have any issues that will cause the throttle to open uncontrollably

Re: Electronic Throttle Control

Thanks for the response. Was not worried about runaway throttle but more to the point of is this a common failure. As he is 250 miles away and has a extended warranty I told him to take it to the dealer and get it coded, hopefully it is nothing more that a bad TPS

Re: Electronic Throttle Control

With extended warranty kids took the car to local FORD dealer who diagnosed a bad fuel pump and an issue with the temp gauge, car is back and so far is running well. I still am concerned that she threw a wrench and electronic throttle control code and the TPS was not a culprit. Well, we will see.

Re: Electronic Throttle Control

I would not be to concerned, the throttle control will not cause the types of concerns that he was having. He should be fine

Re: Electronic Throttle Control

It sounds like a stickey throttle plate.
You near air for hp, the electronic throttle plate can't mussel the plate open.
