what the heckkk, help me out...
1994 civic dx single cam non vtec
i havent scaned it for codes yet but i have no CEL.(it works) my car bogs/sputters once it reaches NORMAL TEMP....when its cold it runs great. it bogs at low rpm accelerations and at idle. ONLY ONCE it gets warm. when accelerating at low rpm i the open throttle and it starts jerking/bogging i kinda pump the gas pedal and then it starts running smooth once i start hitting higher rpms(problem is worse going up hill).at idle it just bogs like it wants to die. i open the throttle a little and it stops bogging for a few and then starts. the car starts great either cold or warm. if its warm and starts bogging at idle and i turn the car off and back on then then the bogging goes away for a little while and then starts back after a while. under AC load the car bogs/sputters/jerks worse but only at normal engine temp. IT RUNS FINE when engine is cold, doesnt matter if ac is on or off. i bought the car 6 months ago.it was dropped on ebay coilover and stock shocks, has headers, custom intake, cat back exhaust blah blah. the car had little misses at idle and low rpm accelerations when i first bought it but not too bad, barely noticable. then a few weeks ago i changed the oil with 10-40 castrol(maybe too heavy? even for miami heat) and i changed the plugs with platinum autolite plugs. THIS IS WHEN the misses/bogging starting getting super serious. they were the right plugs, with the right gap.... at normal temp. each spark was checked and each fired great so we determined it wasnt the spark.changed a dirty azz fuel filter and bogging felt like it got a little better but really it barely changed. during bogging at idle i heard the injectors clicking(screwdriver to ear trick) and it sounded like the injector was slowing down and speeeding back up during a bog. so i got injectors tested and cleaned and they were great all along.fpr is good. i disconnected the iacv while car was bogging at idle and the bogging went away and when to base idle. later i drove with the iacv disconnected and the acceleration jerks/misses/bogs were still there. so w/o scanning the computer my guess is either clogged bad iacv, bad tps, or off throttle position, throttle blade not completely closing, vacuum leak, bad spark plug wires, bad cap & rotor, possibly a bad MAP,bad pcv, bad egr, ignition coil going bad(if coil was going it wouldnt turn right now once car was warm but mine starts right up), timing off, timing belt going, fuel line leak, air filter clogged, fuel pump going bad...... i havent checked with a fuel pressure guage and havent scanned computer. im not handy man so i think it might be time for the mechanic unless one of you guys can help me! |

Re: what the heckkk, help me out...
Seeing that the problem occured "more" when the plugs were changed, I would throw those out and go get you some NGK "OEM" plugs from a parts store or Honda. A 1994 Civic does not need or should it have platinum plugs. Use only what OE calls for. We've had many cars come in with the "right" plugs but not right enough. We put OEM plugs and they run like a champ. If it were me I'd change the plugs, wires, cap/rotor with all Honda stuff. It's not that expensive from Honda and much better quality that Autozone garbage.
