2002 Cavalier a/c problems
Hello,
My daughters a/c works fine and blows very cold at 40 MPH or above. When slowing down in traffic and eventually coming to a stop, you can feel the compressor cycle on and off and the air coming out of the vents is actually very warm. I attempted last night to try and service the system but it wouldn't take any refrigerant indicating to me it was fully serviced. Thanks Mike |

Re: 2002 Cavalier a/c problems
Yesterday when I wrote this I would have said: "let me go look", but I now I can say NO. I took it in and had a $14.95 system diagnostic done and they told me the fan was bad (which I had no idea that small fan had anything to do with the A/C operating correctly). They want $119.99 for the fan and $90.00 to install it. I stopped by Adavance Auto (Jacksonville Florida) on the way home and they have 2 fan motors in stock for $23.00 each!

Re: 2002 Cavalier a/c problems
A/c works by turning a liquid into a gas which creates a cooling effect. This happens in the evap core. The gas then needs to be turned back into a liquid so it firsts enters the compressor. When you compress a gas it creates heat. That heat is removed in the condenser which condenses the gas back into a liquid. No fan = no heat transfer through the condenser and the high side pressures exceed max which turns off the compressor.
If you where traveling 60 MPH down the freeway the A/C would probably work fine until you came to a stop.
