Terminology Problems

Hey everyone, since I use english as a second language (spanish being my first), there are some english terminology that I don't know what do you mean by . Specially when you use mechanical terms or with some slangs. Also since I'm just begining to learn the greeeat world of cars some terms are not known to me.

These are some of the things that I don't understand and I hope that you can clear em' up for me:
what are sleeves and why do you resleeve your car?, why do you polish your crankshaft?, what do you mean when you say "I have a car with a 'Hot Tank'"?, what's a missing link map sensor check valve?

Thanx!

i could tell you but, then i'd have to kill you...
seriously just keep reading you'll and that way you'll learn

for example, you have a b16 swap w/turbo in your sig. if you don't know what sleeves are you'll be able to tell us after this motor and turbo is put into your ride :hehe:

umm i can only help u with the sleeves. the sleeves are the cylinder walls, when u turbo its easy for the cylinder walls aka sleeves to crack, so u resleeve the block by putting in stronger cylinder walls aka sleeves

I go and polich my crankshaft every time that victoria secret commercial comes on.

isnt a hot tank on diesels? the kind where the block has an electric warmer that you plug in, keeps the gas from freezing up? hence hot tank of gas? I dunno

He's saying that when you put the turbo in, you're gonna find out the hard way what sleeves are for.

As for polishing the crank, i've heard a couple differing usages of the term - I've heard someone getting their crankshift regrinded and called that 'polishing' but i think it's the wrong usage of the word. I can't remember the other one though haha =)

As for the missing link map sensor check valve, that's for eliminating map sensor related check engine lights for all forced induction, like the turbo you wanna get.

Not sure about the hot tank, sorry

lmao :hehehe:

Hot tank or (hot tubbing) is a method of engine cleaning in which the block is dropped in a tub of chemicals. I assume thats what your reffering to.
