13r

Hi

Just a quick post to to say hello and introduce myself. I am the lucky chap to buy 13R last month as posted in reply to another thread.

I am a total car nut so rest assured that 13R will now be getting used and not stuck in a collection. It was at goodwood last week as I live close and was first run out in the car. Unfortunately can't make the FOS this year but i am in talks to get it up the hill next year. Should be at Wilton house later in the summer and maybe few other meets.

In terms of plans for the car, it will stay in the LARK livery as I feel changing it ruins the patina of the car. It still has the stone chips and scrapes from racing and i think it should stay that way. It's not going to become yet another LM replica. What i want to do is fit extra seat (maybe 2!) and intercom, this is just to make it more useable.

What I would like to learn and hope you can help is any more about the car. I know whats on the kidsons site but would love more photos, history, videos from the time it raced. My aim is to gather all the info together and sort out book for my own use although if anyone wants it I am sure it's easy to print of extra copy.

Thanks for any help

Andy

Re: 13r

My recomendation would be to fit a cushion to the nearside passengers well and leave the offside at it is. Removing all of the racing switchgear and fuses would certainly spoil the car.

Re: 13r

Welcome to the forum Andy, there are some great guys on here who know so much about Mclaren.
What more could we all wish for than to have an actual owner to comunicate with!
As you can tell from my forum tag, yours is proberbly my favourite liveryed gtr.Unfortunatly i only have a model of the car to look at!
I was seriously annoyed about missing you at the Goodwood gathering, but if you will be at Wilton house ,i will drive down from York.
Fos is usually my only visit so far south!
My Mclaren gtr passion started in 1995 at Donington, when they first raced.Seen others mainly at FOS.
Anyway,about info for your car.
A few years ago i picked up a video of your car in the Japan gt championship. It is in japanese but plays fine on uk video's.It is Autosport vol22,and covers all 6 rounds, but the first 4 are just short clips.Rounds 5 & 6 however are about 20 minutes each, which just happen to be both wins for car 60.There are good racing shots and pitlane changeovers etc. Also a hot timed practice lap showing Ralf driving,Hattori spinning in the pitlane after driver change!!
I think they must have made other videos for the season detailing rounds 1-4.I remeber when i bought it being offered another one which had a proper analasis of the LARK gtr,but the price was too high!
I will try to get the video copyed ,and hopefuly see your great car at Wilton House ,to give you it in person.
Having seen Gulf,Harrods & Fina cars over the years.it would be a dream to see yours.
I will check my files for anything else, photo's etc.

Re: 13r

Andy, Again a big hand here!

Fantastic that you have courage to write here, like I said earlier.
I can not descripe how happy I am to hearing your plans of the cars future. Even; it's your car and we all here just "say" things what we would hoped to happen, so it's more than music on to my ears what I just read.

I don't have time now to write more, (have to go to the work) but still I wan't go upload a one image of the #13R racing days 1996, what you hoped to get, history and details. Hope someone will know which race this has been is taken.

Anyway; superb starting this Thread. Thank You!

Re: 13r

I'm glad you appreciate the history associated with the car and plan to preserve its patina.

I'm quite happy to help satisfy your request here Andy. I'll only warn you that there isn't a whole lot of period content of the LARK GTRs floating around. This is partially due to their limited race careers, but certainly has more to do with the challenges of finding good historical content through Japanese websites.

In fact, right now I have more photos of #13R that were taken since you became its owner than I do of the car when it was actually racing and very few offer the type of quality you'd want to use to print a book with.

I have seen some Japanese magazines that covered the 1996 Japan GT series in my Yahoo Auctions Japan searching, however I don't have copies of any of them in my collection to even offer scans from.

I've always said this forum is in desperate need of a Japanese enthusiast to help cover that portion of the world and it's definitely true in this instance.

Re: 13r

Andy, wellcome!

I appreciate owners like you who use their car and post on forums like these (this is the best for McLaren F1!;-))

I am a total car nut too, especially for the McLaren F1. Am trying to photograph all chassis' ever made, allthough it's almost impossible; to date 18 different F1's!

Hope to have the chance to photograph yours in the not too distant future!

I'd come especially over to the UK from Holland just for an F1! (I did that before)

Shame you cant make it to the FoS but if you don't please let me know when and where you'll use the car (either with pm or just a reply in this topic)

HAVE MUCH FUN!!!

Re: 13r

A copy of the video would be an amazing find. The plan is to come to Wilton house but I will confirm for sure and swap mb numbers nearer the time. Great to see your enthusiasm for the car.

Welcome to the forums.

A good source is JGTC 10 Years Amazon Japan

There is also a DVD of the same name. JGTC 10 years 1994 - 2003.

If anyone would like to rehost photos that they've saved from these threads, it should help.

I,m sure we can put together some info and pics over the next few days .

Do you wish to have 13R,s race history only, or plus its history since then as well? ownership, shows etc.

Just out of interest how did you find the beast first on your time behind the wheel, is it as truculent as I have been led to believe these converted GTR's are?
