i need help with my 00 alero

i have a 2000 alero and today the service engine soon light come on and now when i come to a stop the car tries to or sometimes does die.it also stalls a little when i give it gas. what is the problem?

Welcome to AF.

Which engine do you have 2.4L or 3.4L? Regardless since there is a SES light it needs to be scanned with an odb-ii scan tool to see what diagnostic trouble code(s) is stored.

Go to Autozone and they will read the code for free and report back here the actual code.
