2001 Grand Am "Service Vehicle Soon" light?

Hi,

2001 Grand Am SE, 6cyl, 49,500 miles. Service Vehicle Soon light comes on as soon as car moves. Took it to dealer, he hooked up a diag and found "No fault codes". Course, the light only comes on when the car is put in drive and starts moving, so that could be the reason he couldnt get anything? He says it was probably just a "false code". Not good enough for me. I want the damn light off even if I have to plunge a damn screwdriver into the friggin dash!

Anyone have any fixes or ideas about what causes this light to come on?

My other car is a Bimmer 735iL. When I unload this damn GM, I'm going to Bimmer and never coming back to GM.

Check your head lights I would bet one of them is out!! Usually this means your DRL lights is out!

Their is a difference between "CHECK ENGINE SOON" and "SERVICE VEHICLE SOON" they are 2 different things and the mechanic you had checking your car only check the engine computer and not the body computer because if he did he would of seen the trouble code stored there!

Lights are all working

Thanks for the reply Flatrater!

Actually, all of the lights are working. As a matter of fact, I replaced the left front bulb about two months ago.

Both the service rep and I checked the turn signals, the parking lights, and fog lights. Yeah, you are right about him plugging in the wrong thing. Figures... GM. I'm well aware of the difference between the warning lights (and I thank GOD that it's not the Service Engine Soon light), but I wonder if the dealer's service guy realized the difference?

I'm supposed to have it checked out on Thursday. I'm going to call and make sure he's not charging me for the diag then. If he is, I'll just cancel and maybe have the car "stolen" in Compton or something.

Re: 2001 Grand Am "Service Vehicle Soon" light?

I've just figured out recently that my daytime running lights are no longer working, and my left front light flashes when I start the car. When it's done flashing, the Service Vehicle Soon light comes on.

I installed that new bulb a couple years ago. Perhaps I didnt aim it properly or something. I'm trying to unload the POS now, so I'm just going to get it fixed, along with the issue that is now plaguing this pile of junk steel (serious hesitation and Service Engine Soon light after replacing spark plugs, pcv, plug wires, and air filter).

Turns out my battery died a few weeks later.
I am glad i went to the dealership to find out what was wrong and they avoided this for me. (sarcastic note).
Since the dealer had no idea, i had to go through not being able to start my car, getting it jumped and racing over to a shop to replace the battery.
Glad to see Pontiac really trains their service people on the cars.

Re: 2001 Grand Am "Service Vehicle Soon" light?

I just replaced my headlights with HID Headlights and nothing came on when i first put them on. I just took out my foglight bulbs, and then it seemed they came on right after. However when i turn on my headlights, my right side flickers but then comes on. I also noticed that my running lights dont come on however they did. I only get the Service Vehicle Soon light when the car is in motion. I also have a Service Engine Soon as well. And i expirience jumping and a clunk noise when shifting from reverse to drive or vice versa. Any ideas????

Get rid of the HID's. Go with the OEM lights. That car does not like HID's. I ended up replacing mine with the right bulbs and the lighting problems went away.

Of course, more problems showed up, and I dumped that POS on the first sucker to come by. I'll never drive another Government Motors car. I love my BMW's.
