hi folks,
I'm struggling to decide to purchase prius hybrid or vw tdi jetta or golf, which runs on diesel. Both hybrid and diesel seden can save me quite a few gas money; however, my worries about hybrid are the batteries. I have done some researches, and I found out that hybrid battey will probabely die in 100,000-160,000miles ![]() ![]() ????? And it is expensive to replace a new battery, 5K![]() ???any idea guys? |

Re: Get A diesel or hybrid seden
Both have their advantages and downfalls. The advantage to the Prius is that you now have 3 body styles to choose from (original, priusC or priusV) so you can choose the size that best fits your needs. However, the battery is only rated to last about 10 years or about 100k miles.
Now, with the diesel options, VW tends to be expensive to repair and diesel costs more per gallon than gasoline. However, you can get comparable fuel economy with a diesel compared to the Prius (original at least). I know that wasn't much help, but let us know what you finally decide!

Re: Get A diesel or hybrid seden
You're right about diesels being more expensive to maintain. Ever fuel a diesel? If you are at all particular, you will need to wear special gloves because you are dealing with some smelly stuff. Not easily washed off as well. Most diesels have much larger capacity oil sumps so oil changes cost more. (Oil gets black fast in a diesel)
