Is bulb the problem??

2001 Tahoe. Let's throw this one out there. I replaced the daytime running light sockets due to the socket's over the year's become brittle from the high temp heat from the bulb and the bulb becomes loose. I replaced the old socket's with original replacement parts AC Delco(LS34). Just a socket with a two wire pigtail, just have to splice them. The original bulb wattage is 8.3 watts. I went a different lower wattage bulb 6.7 watts,so as the bulb would run cooler and maybe prevent the heat build up. The problem now is my low beams will not automatically come on or manually, though the high beams will come on if you flip the lever on the steering column. Again, the running lights work fine now, it was a simple two wire splice and the wires were connected to the proper socket sides, though I don't think that would matter anyway. The lower wattage bulb element looked the same, just thinner element. I was wondering if the higher wattage bulb is necessary and or it contains a resistor of some sort in the base, I have not reinstall the old bulbs as of yet to see if that correct the problem, Thanks...

Well j-cat, as always appreciate your reply.I figure you would respond if if struck your fancy. Actually I found the problem. The low beams where working fine prior to putting in the low wattage daytime running bulbs, it was just a coincidence the low bean lights quit working after the installation of the running lights. What I found was that the passenger side low beam element had broke apart and the driver side low beam had a loose connection, where you had to hit the lens in order to get it to work.I think it a problem with that particular bulb,I have costant 12v to that plug.I replaced the burnt bulb and bang on the other and they work fine. So the lesson learn is that you can run a lower wattage bulb in the DRL. Now for those people who want to replace there worn and brittle DRL sockets, the best deal I found was at ROCKAUTO.COM, $14.89ea plus shipping, both cost me $35.35 total. The sockets are a AC Delco replacement part,#LS94. So another mistery solved........

so the bad headlamp acted like the wrong bulb was installed , or wires where shorted out ..very tricky ..

this will be good for others to use just in case, the lighting circuits act up with weird failures like this.

always check all the lamps in the circuit .
