Sham's review of "Brotherhood of the Wolf"

FIRST OFF, before you decide to take your lil ones, your friend from Panama, or your new Russian mail-order bride, this film is in French with English subtitles. That being said, make sure you sit a good distance from the screen otherwise if you sit too close you'll look like your watching a tennis match trying to read the type.

THIS FILM is awesome as far as cinematography is concerned. It's unlike anything you have ever seen when it comes to the slow-mo and landscapes. Lotta funny lens tricks. There are plenty of scenes where the colors just jump off the screen. The settings and costumes are off the hook. Even if you can't read fast, the visuals speak mountains.

THE STORY is quite basic. Monster plagues town, assigned hero sucks, new hero from outta town comes in, wham bam, end of movie. But the twists are what make it differ from the run of the mill movie. There is a lot of psycho stuff thrown in throughout the movie that will have you either bugging out or freaked out. There also is a lot of folklore and implied meanings. If you are not up on the French Revolution, aristocracy and romeo and juliet (yes), you will be lost. It's not an American movie in that sense. It's obvious that some things can go unsaid in a French movie that would throw off an American audience. But the story is firm, none-the-less. It's complicated, yet very understandable.

THE ACTION is quite amazing. Be forewarned though that the sound effects will make your stomach turn - they are that real. Blood and guts and all that good stuff. Plenty of butt kicking and painful deaths. But the action is definately foreign. A lost of close shots, dark rooms and weird angles. Not a traditional film in that sense. When a guy hits he mud in "Brotherhood of the Wolf" you feel the mud. A lot of slow motion water effects I noticed. Pretty cool. And when people get killed by the monstor of the flick, it's pretty darn scary - yet almost comical - becaue you know whats gonna happen. Wait till you see the "little bo peep" scene. All in all the action scenes are great, a break from the norm and worth the price of admission alone.

The only drawbacks to the movie come about because it IS a french flick. Some of the humor is lost through translation and many characters have confusing names. Not confusing really, it's just easier to remember "John Davis" rather then Duke D'Francois De Marquis de Bolone J' Tude...ya know? A cultural thing. Also there some un-needed characters and un-needed scenes that both could be left on the editing table. In between reading what is said and watching you can lose some of the subliminals.

Overall this flick gets a Sham grade of B+. A definate must see, but not for everyone.

WHOO HOO... nice movie if u ask me. long but good. i got to admit they over did it with the slow motion, but got the point across. The female starts are hot, all of em!!. and the monster only eats the pritty girls, lots of ugly women running around alive in France.

Both heros kicks lots of ass, realy like the buddy partner story. This movie had everything u'll want. Good multiple story line, buddy partner relationship, hot chicks, whore house full of ugly chicks, mysterus beast eating hot chicks, hand 2 hand combat (lots of it), martial arts(billy from Double Dragon the movie is Mani!!!), some banging with a very hot chick!!, the french are horny, there was some comedy, little horror, romance, beautiful locations, did i mention very hot leading ladies

any ways did like the Titanic rip(i dont like titanic) naked hot chick spy kicks ass. every one should see it atlease once, it's in french alota ppl might get turnd off by that but it wasent that bad at all. Enjoyed the movie alot and i give it a 8 outa 10 stars. :licker:
