Unhappy Starting Problem

Saturday night I was starting my car, it started for about a second, then shut off. I tried to start it again, but it would not start, just a noise(not clicking noise) from the starter. The battery is fine. I was thinking about replacing the spark plugs and fuel filter today, as I have never changed them in 55K miles(80k+ kilometers).

Any suggestions on what my problem might be is highly appreciated.

I would think it would be the starter but what you said about it staring and then shutting off doesn't make much sense.

Just for the hell of it, try tapping the starter with a screwdriver handle or a hammer next time it won't start.

Your plugs don't need to be changed till 60,000 miles. Use OEM ones when you do them.

I have had the car for 55k miles, and never changed the sparkplugs or fuel filter, but the car has 155k miles on it.

A 97 with 155K. Deeezam!

Anyway, you could try replacing those items and it will probably help, but I doubt its the root cause.
