I have a 99 jeep cherokee that will not start. At first, it was no fire, no fuel. I changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, checked fuses, and changed ignition coil. Someone told me it was the crank position sensor which turned out to be half the problem I guess because now it has fuel but still no fire. Can someone please help me and tell me what I'm missing?? Thank you for all your help! Suzanne

Re: 99 Jeep Cherokee-No Fire
What engine and how many miles?
What transmission do you have (auto or manual)? Did this happen suddenly, or have you had some gradually worsening issues? Has the vehicle overheated recently?

Re: 99 Jeep Cherokee-No Fire
It is a V6, 200,000 miles, automatic, it happened suddenly and it has never overheated. I just woke up one morning to go to work and it wouldn't start. It had no fire, no fuel. I replaced the crank position sensor and now it has fuel, but no fire. Thats when I replaced the ignition coil and still no fire. I just didn't know if I was missing something simple. I just knew the crank shaft position sensor would fix it but I guess not. It fixed half of it. Thanks for all your help! Suzanne

Re: 99 Jeep Cherokee-No Fire
I think you'd benefit from reading this thread. It contains a lot of good information about fixing a no-start Cherokee.
After a quick read myself, I'd ask if you are getting spark, and how long it has been since the spark plugs were changed.

Re: 99 Jeep Cherokee-No Fire
Thanks for all your help. I just wanted to let you know that we found the problem. When they changed the crankshaft position sensor and they plugged it back in, they bent back one of the terminals. So they took a screwdriver and bent it back right, plugged it back up and it started right up. Can you believe that?? So all it was was the crankshaft just had to plug it in correctly. Thanks again. suzanne

Re: 99 Jeep Cherokee-No Fire
Awesome...I would never have suspected that. Glad you're back on the road. You getting some money back from the shop?

Re: 99 Jeep Cherokee-No Fire
Well, there never was a shop. haha. I have a mechanic friend who told me it was the crankshaft. My boyfriend was the one who changed it and bent the terminal (not really a car kind of guy, lol). So my mechanic friend came back to check it and found the problem. I am so glad Im back on the road too! After all the things that were changed on it, and 2 weeks later, i feel like im driving a brand new car!
Thanks so much for helping me out. Take care. Suzanne

Re: 99 Jeep Cherokee-No Fire
i was wondering why you still had no fire with a new crank sensor since thats where the signal comes from for the spark

Yep. When the mechanic came back and hooked that machine back up to it and he still wasn't getting anything from the crank sensor thats when he unplugged it and seen the problem and now it runs like a champ!
