good news, bad news

Damnit,
Well, let's start off with good news. I graduated college tonight. That was nice.
Ok, bad news. The motor is making a bad knocking noise around 3000 rpm. When it idles (idling low) the oil light comes on. Checked oil, it was about a half quart low. If you press in clutch and rev to about 3k rpm, it makes an awful knocking noise, I'm thinking it's a rod. Which means, rebuild. Anyone else know what it could be. I thought, well maybe exhaust leak. Doubt it though. It's too late to check right now, gotta wait till morning. Damn this sucks. Maybe this is why it's been getting beat by Si's and ZC's. SHIT!!!

Maybe you need your valves adjusted. Congrats on your graduation!

if the oil light comes on, you have serious problems. it wont normally come on until you are like 3 1/2 quarts low. check your oil pump.

valves...no. It is a knock, not a tick.
oil pump problem, I think so. Thinking the oil pump is going out and oil pressure is low, causing a spun rod bearing. Bad news but "live and learn". I'm gonna try to figure it out today.

oil lights coming on because its idling too low, turn the idle mix screw on the throttle body up a notch, watch your tach and udle specs should be on your hood...like 800 rpm when warmed up i do believe....my rex was doing the same...the knock however may be a problem...time for a d series swap...hehehehehhe

d series swap, hmmmm....that's what I have. a 96 sohc vtec. I'm about to drop the oil pan in about 20 minutes after oil drains and it cools down. From there, I will try to take some digi pics to post on here. Me and my buddy at www.speedzonefl.com (shameless plug) both think it is a rod bearing. If so, it may cost upwards of $100 to fix...doing the work myself. Wish me luck.

Yeah it's a rod....if you keep driving it give it a day or so before the rod comes through the block, you probally spun a bearing.

enigine is tore down now. It was the main, rod bearings, everything. Time for some eagle rods, SRP pistons, p&p manifold and head, yadda yadda. Money's going down the hole.
I'm out like a boner in sweatpants!!
