water pump?

first let me say that i love my Lumina...Monday my son did an oil change, tie rod end and front brakes. After work on Tues. i went to put gas in and it ended up on my feet. Wed. Morning he put in a new filler neck. Today, Thurs. i went to town to do grocery shopping and noticed a puddle under the car. I looked under the hood checked to see if it was oil. Remembered that i had added some water to the resevoir for the coolant and did not think muxh of it. Guessed that it had overflowed (pretty hot day) I went to the 2nd store, same thing, now i am worried. Came home and noticed that my serpentine belt was squealing, got to the house, popped the hood and there was water/coolant pouring out of the space between the bottom of the H2O pump and the harmonic balancer, alot of water! The best that i can figure is bad water pump, or bottom radiator hose. I did not seem to lose any power durring this experience. My car is a '93, 3.1 with 198K. No water in the oil, no oil in the water...I change the oil @ 3,000 with out fail. From what i have read, the pump would be the best case scenario, I am thinking way too much water to be a gasket leak...I know it is not the bypass gasket because i have already had that experience and checked it first. Any help woud be great.

Re: water pump?

Sounds like a water pump. The weep hole is on the bottom of the pump and covered by the water pump pulley. You'll have a much better idea with the pulley off. Takes about 20 minutes to change, there readily available, and not very expensive.

Re: water pump?

That has the old style 3.1. Pretty rare for the intake to leak on those. Even more rare for it to leak on the passenger side. Even more rare for it to leak that bad.

Re: water pump?

but it still can leak on eather side. Check your oil and see if it's milky. More than likely it's the water pump. Presureize the cooling system to locate the leak

Re: water pump?

I saw the reply on no water in the oil or oil in the water. But i'v noticed some poeple cant read english. Like some one will tell the life story about there car and the next person ask what motor and what year and the person clearly stated that info on the begining of there thead. i just give out my 2 cent's worth and other times it's free advise. So AIRJER_, shoot me some advise on my thread on my top rad neck broke off thread.
