92 electrical problem

I am posting this question for a neighbor that does not have internet service.

92 Skylark 3.3 engine.

OK. They swapped a used 3.3 into vehicle. WHEN HOOKING UP THE BATTERY THEY HOOKED BACKWARDS. ( Negative cable on positive side and viseaversa) From what I was told there was some smoke. They fiqured it was the ignition switch, they got one from a salvage yard and still does the same thing.

Here is the problem::: The engine will run as long as the ignition switch is hel in the start position, once key is let to return to run position the engine dies. The ecm fuse was blown from the battery hook up deal. Is there a fuseable link somewhere that could be the problem???

THIS CAR DOES NOT HAVE THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. the guy said there was 2 cars at salvage yard, 1 each with and without air bag systems. He did get the switch from non air bag system.

All advice would be greatly appreciated.
