1996 jeep cherokee starter

1996 cherokee will start start just fine but when running the starter will act like i turned the key again for just a sec. then it will wait 30sec then do it again? any ideas

Check starter electrical circuits. Remove the starter, I can usually run a starter laying on the ground, see if it acts normal. Voltage to the coil side of starter relay is hot with the key in the crank position. Voltage to the load/switch side of relay is hot all the time.
