Oil life meter accuracy

So I just got my 04 town car about a month ago. When I got the car one of the first things I did was got an oil change. When I got the oil change, my mechanic reset the "oil life" meter thing so it read 100% oil life.

It's been about 3000 miles since that oil change and it reads 75% oil life meaning the oils still good for a while.

My question is - is that correct? Are these accurate? Should I wait until it tells me the oil is at a lower percent or should I change it now?
