02 Keyless Chirp/ 99 Headlight issue

On my 2002 the horn does not sound when I lock the car all the lights just flash. I like when the horn chirps it lets me know my doors are locked. My 99 does chirp and I was wondering if there is something I can do to make the horn chirp when I lock the car with the remote on my 2002. I do not have the owners manual either. Also on my 1999 the headlights work fine and everything but they do not switch off at the switch where as on my 2002 if I flip the switch to the DRLs the headlights turn off leaving only the DRLS and tail lights on. The 99 when I do that does nothing, the headlights just stay on. It just sucks because if your at a drive in movie theatre and your cold if you turn the car on to get some heat the headlights are on blinding other people.

Re: 02 Keyless Chirp/ 99 Headlight issue

Do your headlights automatically come on with the 99? On my car, once it gets past a certain point of darkness, the lights come on by themselves and theres nothing you can do about it.

BUT, there is a quick fix for your situation at the drive-in movies...if you push the parking brake in even one-click, it disables the automatic headlights...you will have a "Brake" light on in the dash, and if you put it in a gear besides park or neutral youll have an annoying chime...but otherwise it should be fine. If Im not mistaken you will still have DRLs, but that shouldnt offend anyone too much....by the way if youre cold, just bring someone with you to warm you up *wink wink*

There is a procedure to make your horn honk too, its in the owners manual, Ill have to dig it up for you. Ill post back soon.

EDIT: Found the procedure in my owners manual, Im typing all this out for you, I hope your happy!

The operating mode of the remote activation verification lock (RAV) feature feature will be changed when the driver performs the following sequence with the doors closed and the ignition key in ON

1. Press and hold down the power door lock switch in the lock position

2. While holding the door lock switch, press and release the remote keyless entry transmitter LOCK button. This button press will initialize the customization mode. Upon initiation of this mode, the chime will sound the number of chimes corresponding to the current RAV lock mode.

3. Each additional press of the remote keyless entry transmitter LOCK button will cause the vehicle to advance the RAV lock mode one by one, starting from the current RAV lock mode

4. If cycled beyond RAV lock Mode 4, the vehicle will enter RAV lock mode 1. When the door lock switch is released, the vehicle will remain in the most recent RAV lock mode.

RAV lock modes are as follows:

Mode 1: No verification
Mode 2: Horn Chirp only
Mode 3: Headlamp and Parking Lamp Flash Only
Mode 4: Horn Chirp and Headlamp and Parking Lamp Flash

I suppose I could have simplified that a lot...too late now. Mode 4 is the way to go!

Re: 02 Keyless Chirp/ 99 Headlight issue

I personally went with Mode 3: Headlamp and Parking Lamp Flash Only. I don't like to make noise at night when getting in and out of the car. The automatic interior lights are annoying enough. If it gets really hard to find my car in a parking lot I'll use my panic button thanks to SUV's and VANs blocking my view.

If your car is anything like mine, the panic button works seemingly hundreds of feet away, but you have to get 10 feet away to turn the thing off.....makes for some embarrassing moments occasionally.

Best panic button moment ever was when a friend and I were walking out to my car on campus and saw a couple making out right next to my car...well needless to say, I can't have stuff like that going on....When I got to the car I just said "Sorry, wrong button" and off we went...good times.

Re: 02 Keyless Chirp/ 99 Headlight issue

Thanks for typing it all up I do appreciate it. As far as the bringing someone else with to keep me warm is almost impossible.lol. I talk about my 2002 and things to repair and replace so much nobody wants to sit in it because it will lead to a car conversation. I pride myself over my car a little too much.lol. No need for a girl friend.lol.. Now I did get my car to chirp. Thanks to your directions I now know my car locks. My main and only reason for wanting it to chirp is because I work 27 miles away from my house and cars get stolen from my work parking lot every year usually around x-mas But I am not going to take any chances. So I wanted it to chirp so I knew it was locked instead of coming out of work and realizing I was too far away from my car when I hit the button and my car was unlocked the whole time. Figures I work at a multi billion $/yr company and we dont have secured parking lots. Now for the 99 headlight dealio. When We set the parking brake the lights dont turn off.The switch was replaced as well as some under dash components when the lights shorted out. turns out that repair didnt work it was the hazard switch causing the short. Just cant get them to turn off they never did with the first switch either. They are automatic and they turn on at the proper times too. Just cant get them to turn off just didnt know if there was a setting that could be changed no biggy though I can just take the 02 to the outdoors. Thanks for the tips.

Re: 02 Keyless Chirp/ 99 Headlight issue

I did miss one crucial thing, for the parking brake trick to work, the car has to be turned off when you push it in. Basically you have to start the engine with the brake already pushed in...pushing it in while its already running will have no effect. Hopefully this does the trick for you. I sort of think it will, sorry about the oversight.

Re: 02 Keyless Chirp/ 99 Headlight issue

Yea when you leave the ebrake pushed down after parking the car and come back with the E brake still down just start it the exterior lights will be completely off, also the dash lights but not the warning or interior lights.

When you exit your car all you have to do is push your power door lock switch down, then you’ll hear it chime 3 times and within 3-5 seconds all the doors will lock

Re: 02 Keyless Chirp/ 99 Headlight issue

Heh, I wish I could have that much confidence in the door locking abilities of my Intrigue... My doors only lock about 30% of the time even though the horn chirps. Most of the time I just lock my doors old school style so I can be sure it's locked.

Re: 02 Keyless Chirp/ 99 Headlight issue

E brake trick worked. I have never had an issue with my doors not locking when I use the keyless fob or the door switch on either of my intrigues. Only when the battery in the fob is too low or i'm too far away from the cars do the doors not get locked. I have never heard of them not locking but still chirping on the Intrigue but, I have on I think it was on a chevy blazer on this site. But now I cant seem to find it or i'd send u the link I didnt get too far into deatil about what was causing it not to lock but still chirp.
