Tamiya Open Interface SC430

This is my latest completion. I started it last summer and messed up the red/silver combination. After a bath in brake fluid and a new paint process (prime white/mask and paint the red THEN mask and paint the silver) it ended up like this. I loved this scheme when I saw it and now that it's finished, it's one of the most striking cars on my shelf.

As for the kit, the plate chassis with the metal insert that attaches with screws was cheesy, but it was what it was. The absolute worst part was the front fender assembly. No matter how many times I puttied and sanded (I lost count), I couldn't get the seams to disappear. The paint is all Tamiya (AS-12 Bare Metal and TS-49 Bright Red). The red around the bottom of the body is paint and all other red is decal. The decals were awesome!!!! Solvaset made them conform great and they had a perfect overlap. I used the Tamiya photo-etch set with some carbon fiber decals for the front splitter. I am really wanting to build the Zent and Mobil 1 SC430's now. The photos show a few flaws, but I just need to clean them up.

Splendid build, if it was pictured on a race track diorama, it would be hard to say it's not the real one.

Looks good, it reminds me of mine i built a while back. Looks really clean, only thing the rear meshes are sopposed to be black. Nice work.

Re: Tamiya Open Interface SC430

Thanks for the kind words! The rear screens are not as bright as they appear. I couldn't find a great picture showing the color so I went with light gunmetal. I do wish I had made them darker though. Instead of making a mess of them with a brush, I'll just live with them as they are.

Very nice. I have one of these in my stash, and I think it just moved up the order after seeing yours!
