87 wagon stalls
I have a 87 wagon with a 307. The car needs to be looked over in a number of areas. the wife was driving it today in traffic and it stalled 3 different times as she went from standstill to giving it gas to go. it idles rough in D and i'm hoping to get to look at it this weekend. The spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor are fairly new. the only other time it's stalled is when you first turn it on in the am and don't give it a few to warm up.
with the above narrative, what should i look at? she states that when it would stall, exhaust fumes would "overcome" the inside and she had to open the windows. i believe there's an exhaust leak that I have to hunt down and i think it's at the exhaust manifold gasket because of the ticking like i had in another car. it may be elsewhere too because the exhaust system is done for. i'll prob change the fuel filter and hit it with some carb cleaner, but other suggestions would be nice. thanks |

the 307 olds engine with poor idling the vacuum guage needs to be used to locate the vacuum leaks ... the exhaust exit on the passenger side has a heat riser this is probably rusted out ...using some stainless steel .030 wire , lock it in the full open position ...the gasket is there, this is a common problem area as it will wear especially if the motor mounts are bad or the holes that the motor mounts set in are worn.. the PCV system does get clogged...clear any restrictions or vacuum hose issues/gaskets etc... removal of the carb and directly below in the middle of the primary jets is a hole in the intake manifold this gets plugged up with carbon , this is very common with this engine ..just simply using a coat hanger type wire clear this passageway the suck out the debris..removal of the egr and using a air pressure to make sure its open is best... |

Re: 87 wagon stalls
i haven't been able to check for that vacuum leak yet. however, i have a hookup for parts and i'm thinking about just getting whatever i can that may be the source of the problem. i don't want to let it pass so should i just get stuff like a new EGR,Vapor canister, PVC valve, etc.? what other thngs should i just get if i can?
Thanks |

THE FUEL PUMP IF " ORIGINAL " SHOULD ALSO BE REPLACED... i'm sure the engine will run much better... |
