front blower

My 1996 Villager developed the problem of not blowing the air through the front vents.
I checked fuses in the fuse box – OK.
Replaced the blower motor (under passenger side dash). Actually I did not install the new one, just connected it to the power, but it does not goes on.
I assume, I have bad connections, but what to check?

so the fan motor doesn't work at all? at any level of the switch?

I have vent/ac with temperature control – I believe this qualifies as an auto climate.
Yes, the vent does not blow at any settings. Yesterday I tried to twist all the contacts I could reach, the same effect, vent is not blowing.
One more thing. If I switch from the OFF position to any of the vent blowing position, I can hear some sort of noise from the passenger dash side area, but not from the blower. This noise ends up in 3 seconds, like something is trying to start.

Well then, there is a small rectangular box near the blower passenger side underneath (follow the wires) it'll have a bracket with it....it should have one plug in it...that's moe than likely your problem (same thing happened to me) it is a blower resistor unit...sometimes the components inside can short....It's pretty expensive; almost $100 Ouch!.you may want to remove and open it and clean it but perhaps jiggle the wiring harness and see...but if you have to replace it...let me know I can give you the Nissan prt number counter part and a website where you can get it for almost 30% off......

Let me describe what I see under my pass. Side dash. If I look forward to the hood, I see some kind of plastic enclosure with the blower motor on the right side of that plastic. To the left of the blower, there is a connection to the (I assume blower resistor unit, you are talking about). I removed it, and it is kind of 2” by 3” panel with 4 metal hands and some kind of metal pipe between them. It pretty much looks like resistor to me. The only problem – it is not plugged to anything. I unscrewed 2 bolts ant that thing fell down.
I read in another post about this resistor, so I bought it before hands (resister and blower for $75 together).
So, I screw the new one to that hole, but as I mentioned it is not plugged or connected to anything, and my hand did not find anything in that hole to connect to.
I know, something is wrong in that picture, but what?

there has to be a wiring harness to the unit......it comes from your control panel...right now I'm at work so I'm going by my memory, which slowly is fading as I get older ..lol!

I believe that the box your talking about is it..but has to have a harness to it and it does NOT go into any hole...it has a bracket to it to mount outside of the whole air unit

BTW the unit is called the A/C blower motor speed control, come to think of it.........

i have 2002 villager. dash fan control has 4 speed settings and it only worked on high. ordered "blower motor resistor" assembly from local ford dealer for $33.00 . open passenger side door, get on your hands and knees with a shop light, look under glovebox. you will see blower motor and at very bottom of motor is a wiring harness. unscrew the 2 screws holding this harness in place and pull the resistor assembly out of blower motor. push new resistor assembly into the slot, attach 2 screws and reinsert wiring harness. it worked for me. dealer quoted $400 to replace the complete blower motor, so i held off, searched forums and found the same repair "fix" i list above, thank goodness. this also occured under warranty on my 1999 villager so this is a recurring problem.

Thank you. Thank you. You just saved me hundreds of $$. I had just that very same thing happen where only full speed would work and sure enough, the circuit was blower and cooked. The part must have come down in price because I only paid $27 at our Mercury dealer for the resistor. Have I said thank you yet? I'm sure the dealer would have wanted to replace the blower or head unit.

I had the same problem described above on my 2002 Villager (98000 miles) with front blower only working on high (setting 4). Thanks for the advice about how to change the blower resistor- I was able to fix it myself! I got the part at a local auto parts store (murray's/o'reilly's) for $25 and it looks the same as the original (both were made in Mexico). The original was definitely bad- part of the metal plating on the resistor had flaked off. Mercury dealership quoted $43 for the part. My brother is an auto mechanic and he said this repair will work 99% of the time for any vehicle with this problem, and the part from local auto parts store should be fine.

Follow up: After I installed the circuit board the part blew out again the next day. The problem was the blower motor. When it fails, it draws too much load and burns the circuit board. Do yourself a favor and replace the blower motor now before you waste the $30 you just spent. You can find it cheapest at www.rockauto.com and I would recommend getting it with the factory plug-in. I bought the generic version and had to splice the wires together.

I have driven >1000 miles after replacing blower resistor. It fixed the problem and no other repairs were needed.
