Ford Falcon GTHO Ph 3

This is a project that I really don't know where this thread should be. I will explain.

This is a kit. But it is also a diecast model . The main tools required to put this together is a screwdriver and glue. Fine detailing can be done so other more normal modelling tools will be used.

What I have here is a 1/8th (yes 1/8th!) scale diecast kit. Designed and sold here in Australia by Icon Models. They sell for AUD995 To keep costs down, the buyer puts it together. It is prepainted, detailed to a high degree and a lot of already assembled sub-assemblies. As just a OOB build it is supposedly going to take 10-12 hours.

The biggest problem I can see is just where do you display it? Luckily I don't have that problem as it is not mine. I have just be asked to build it for someone who unfortunately (or fortunately for me) does not believe they have the skill to build it. And how could I refuse.

Well here goes. Following this are photos of the kit.

Re: Ford Falcon GTHO Ph 3

There are quite a few photos.

First up, this is the model box as it comes out of the box it is mailed/couriered to you in. To give you a scale, the car on top is the same type of car but in 1/18th scale. The kit I am building is a road car version of this car.

Open the box and you are met with this. It is a tray with the body, bonnet, front quarter panels and many other bits. I will get back to this shortly.

Grab those two white ropes, and when you lift it out, you are met with another tray. This one has the chassis, engine, seats etc.

Re: Ford Falcon GTHO Ph 3

Lets look at this in a bit more detail.

The bottom tray includes the rear seat (which is soft to replicate a real seat, exhausts, centre console, tail shaft etc. As you can see, the centre console is finished as a sub-assembly. This is the same with a lot of the items.

After taking the clear tray out that has the seat etc, you can see the chassis with carpet already installed, wheels and tyres, seatbelts, firewall and suspension sub-assembly etc.

This is the bottom of the chassis/floorpan. As you can see, it is highly detailed though more can be done.

You can see why I am not sure which area this should really be in. Anyway, let me show you more.

Now to the top tray.

Here is the body shell. This of course bolts onto the chassis. All doors and boot open.

This is the underside. The headlining, dash, door linings are already installed.

Then we have the front quarter panels and bonnet with a hole for the shaker.

Re: Ford Falcon GTHO Ph 3

For those who love engines, you can actually buy this as a separate item.

Don't know if I will be allowed to weather it.

This is another shot to give you some perspective of the size. The wheel leaning against it is a 1/24 Seat Cordoba tarmac wheel and tyre.

Here is a quick shot showing the body on the chassis with two wheels on the five wheel studs.

Re: Ford Falcon GTHO Ph 3

Lastly we have the small items like screws etc. This thing reminds me of my very old Meccano sets.

Instructions are pretty basic though they do have some suggestions to increase the detail level.

And finally, a copy of the owners manual that came with the original 1/1 car.

What do you think? Is this the correct area?

I don't know about the area this should be in but I do know I sure like this. Thanks for all the photos, that is a pretty cool looking engine too.

Re: Ford Falcon GTHO Ph 3

It is an amazing looking kit, but I wouldn't be paying $1000 for it. Now, if it was an A9X torana, maybe! Just looking here, a 1/8th scale would be 58.6 cm long. That's a big model to be displaying!
