Cross breed F350, wiring nightmare, ugh!!!

I picked up an '88 F350 XLT Lariat Crew Cab Dually with a 1st gen Cummins 5.9L turbo diesel and Dodge 5 speed. It looks like a residential electrician wired this thing, wire nuts everywhere....it's a total mess and needs a complete wiring overhaul, pretty sure the previous owner lied about the fact that this truck was running flawlessly 2 weeks ago, he did not perform the trasplant, he bought the truck as it is now. I can't address mechanical issues until the wiring is taken care of. I hate messing with automotive electrical stuff. I might as well be trying to teach myself to speak Chinese, I'd have about as much luck succeeding. There is one guy in town who is a god when it comes to this stuff and his prices are as high as the heavens, that being said I'm going to have to try and tackle this on my own and will need serious guidance, hope I can get some of that here or maybe someone can direct me to some in depth automotive electrical forums. Wish me luck, I'll be jumping in with both feet this upcoming weekend.
