84 olds 98 choke adjustment

1984 olds 98, 307 4 bbl. she's hard to start first thing in the morning. you have to pump the gas pedal and when she starts, you have to rev the motor quite a bit to keep running. once she's warmed up, starting is no problem. other than that, it's a great running car. just did a tune up minus the fuel filter change (auto parts store was out of filters), but that's going to be done this weekend. any help would be greatly appreciated. i checked on line at autozone's repair manual and it talked about a special tool to check clearances, but i don't have access to one.

p.s. it's my 17 year old daughters car and i want it to run good for her so her mom and i don't worry.

Re: 84 olds 98 choke adjustment

The carb on this car was prone to leakage of fuel from the fuel bowl base plugs which can cause hard starting, the choke should be closed when cold then pop open about 1/4 inch after tatrting, if you are unfamiliar with the Quadrajet carb, I would suggest some professional help with this.
