How to change the fuel filter
Have two questions:
1. What's a good brand of fuel filter? 2. How do i replace one, after I remove the old filter, how do I stop the fuel from leaking? Are there any special tools that I need - it's my first time ![]() Thanks

Re: How to change the fuel filter
Any major brand filter is ok, Napa is what I use. One end of the filter requires line wrenches the other is a quick disconnect, you can use a smal scew driver to release the tabs., remove the fp fuse when running to reduce pressure before removing. There will still be fuel draining so careful here.

Re: How to change the fuel filter
I've changed the filter and soon after got 'Gas cap loose' message. I disconnected the battery to clear the code. It went away and now came back. What do I do to repressurize the system? I checked the filter, it's not leaking.

Re: How to change the fuel filter
Either the cap is not seated or there is another issue in the evap system, the battery disconnect will not work in an obd11 car. The fuel filter has nothing to do with this unless you knocked off an evap tube near the filter change deal. BTW worked for Cadillac at Kings HWY and Utica ave, early 70s-86.

Re: How to change the fuel filter
If I knocked off an evap tube, how do I verify it's ok? What does it look like? Currently nothing is leaking in the vicinity of the filter.
P.S. Kings HWY and Utica ave is right by me

Re: How to change the fuel filter
Neighborhood got a little "rough", no? Look for any black plastic tube loose or cracked, after that you will need a smoke test or a factory manual to accurately track this down. The message should be cleared to see if it returns first, can be done in the DIC.
