Anybody...

I think these cars are pretty cool. Does anybody have any pictures? I think Jay Leno owns several of them.

There are lots of pictures of these cars; I have many, just none scanned. They produced less than 1,000 cars (I think it's in the 800-900 range) in the 1920s and 1930s. They're beautiful and elegant machines that are truly powerful (to drive or to look at).

Approximately 472 Duesenberg Model J chassis were produced between 1929 and 1935.
Engine supplier Lycoming built exactly 481 of the magnificent DOHC 32-valve 420 CID straight-eight engines (some supercharged) that powered these glorious machines.
They were by a wide margin the most powerful automobiles of their day.

Many experts believe the Duesenberg Model J was not merely the finest car of its age, but of ANY age

For sure, Hudson, and it was not my intent to be seen 'correcting' your figures - merely supplying some numbers. When most people think of Duesenbergs, it's the Model J they refer to.

Duesenberg-inspired motor cars can be traced back to the 1904 Mason, an unusually powerful horizontally-opposed twin cylinder.
The Mason brand was later purchased by Maytag, and renamed thus (1910?).
From 1913, Duesenberg Motor Co's (later Duesenberg Motors Corp.) quest for horsepower earned an increasingly impressive reputation, designing high-power marine and aviation engines (powering the 1st boat to do 60mph, the 1914 2x12-cylinder 2,400hp Disturber IV!) also building complete, dominant racing cars and their famous Land-Speed-Record breakers.

I've had the good fortune to watch a 1911 (I believe) Mason in operation.

Duesenberg brand cars didn't being production until 1920.

And that pesky 'great depression' thingy wiped them out in the 30's (37??). Darn

Nice to see others who enjoy Classic Era Autos

It seems like most of the auto nuts on the web just like new cars, exotic cars, and some muscle cars. It is nice to see others you appreciate the real classics. I am working on a site which will have many Duesey Pics, along with other Classic Era cars. www.classicfenders.com should be up before 2001 is over.

Cord and Auburn were wiped out in the great depression also. I remember that Cord was in to Superchargers also, and they were quite popular with the rich and famous (I belive there was one in a movie about 'that guy' who went to play his famous music in WWII, but he dissapeared crossing the channel)
Auburn I know very little about, I'm not sure why not, though.

I was once parked next to one at a car show. I swear my eyes (I'm 6'0") were level with the top of the engine. Well, close. These are BIG cars. You want to get zero votes at a popular-vote show? Park next to a Dusey, they won't even know you're there.:alien2:

My buddy has one, absolutely beautiful. Apparently this car sold for $40,000.00 to the Queen of AUHSDAOI (I forget) in 1931 which is equivalent to a $2,000,000 car today! Pretty amazing!

There is a picture at the bottom of this page:

Unfortunately it is too big to upload.

Re: Anybody...

That car pictured in the ad is a car owned by Jay Leno, he showed it to me once. It is green, one of the early SJ's, but not early enough to have hard pipes. If you want more picture of Dueseys, go to might site, I have over 30 of them:
