Thumbs up 2009 GTR spotted on road...

Saw this bad boy on the freeway yesterday while on the 405 Fwy going north from about Carson to roughly the 10 Fwy/Santa Monica.

I was driving along in the fast lane, I happened to look down for a split second when I heard something to my right in the next lane take off randomly. I heard turbo spool and a throaty V6 sounding take off.

I look up and there this thing was, immediately went into pursuit mode and started tailing the guy. Unfortunately, you can't really tail a 500+hp Supercar in a 285hp (with 123+k) full size pickup truck. My only saving grace is that this guy didn't know how to navigate Los Angeles traffic and kept getting stuck when he'd go wide open. I was able to maintain a good distance on him with my superior navigatin' skillz! (yes, skillz .. with a z. It makes it better... somehow.)

Originally in pictures I never really liked the car, and the original specs of the car seemed rather dull. But now that I've seen it in person and heard it... and more importantly seen it haul ass repeatedly. Not to mention reading Motortrends article on it and seeing the dyno results. I'm very impressed by this car... and it's warmed up to me. It's very angular and aggressive. To me the pics never did it justice...

Funny thing is, the guy driving was some young guy "testing" the cars performance. He kept jumping from lane to lane trying to get a good run but LA traffic is never that nice. And because he's being a dick about it, he almost got side swiped by another car moving into his lane. I watched it almost happen. He was riding a trucks bumper, then came around to the right into the open lane where a car two lanes over was coming into the lane to it's left... the GTR popped around the truck and took off, while the other car came into the lane the GTR was now in and went swerving like crazy. I LOL'd pretty loud... especially since the car wasn't even the guys. It had the Nissan Corporate Dealer plate...

Ahh test vehicles... almost had to test the cars crashing abilities. Funny stuff. Cool car though.

Sorry for the poor images, they're off my cell phone. Although for a cell phone, they are pretty nice pics. (Samsung Glyde 2megapixel) andd.... the dirty windows of my truck don't help either. lol...

Nice cars. I saw one couple weeks ago here in Omaha. They aren't as loud as I thought they would be though.

Looks at it long and hard.
Looks at the numbers long and hard.
Looks at the numbers even more.
Continues looking at the car and its numbers.
Reads about 'Ring time.
Reads about 'Ring time controversy.

Nope. Give me the ZR1. Thanks.

Nice spotting though.

Sorry Joshy... I thought I did.

But... there you have it!

Personally, I'd probably still take a C6Z06 as an equal price competitor. But knowing that Nissan dealers will ask a premium and it'll most likely skyrocket to high 90s (or more)... Viper range and the new ZR1 range. I'd rather take the ZR1 as well.

I still believe there maybe increases in the near future. Word will spread that the Nissan is good, and the "Me too's" will want them and that's where the markups will come.

Those who can afford them now... might be the lucky ones.

Good find

Re: 2009 GTR spotted on road...

id take a gtr over the zr1 anyday. thats just me. for one i could carry my family in it, and not have to worry about space of it being a 2 seater. its not a lot of space, but it is more than enough. i personally would rather have a clutch though. they say that the gearing is so short and perfect for the powerband, that its best its in automatic, as you cant shift as fast as the car wants you to.

Re: 2009 GTR spotted on road...

ZR1s are pretty amazing, There is actually the third one ever made in bismarck, some guy who owns a dealership had them ship it over. But that car seems like a traction problem and a half to be, as compared to the GT-R. But I would prefer a stick. But the GT-R wins in looks by a long shot I think. If only it was in red in those pictures

Dont get me wrong, I love howo vettes look, but...just look at this thing.

Re: 2009 GTR spotted on road...

My dealership isn't getting one of these, well...were "not sure" if were getting one of these because in order to get one you have to pay for up to $100,000 worth of diagnostic equipment and specialty tools, not to mention to get the dealer certified to have one. But if we become a nismo dealer i'm definately gonna push to get this to...and then my test drive will be written about on here

That's ok. Either car will match your car's rear-end.

Re: 2009 GTR spotted on road...

While the ZR1 is a mean car, I would take the GTR. While it definately sets itself away from other Vettes with differen wheels, see through part in the hood, side vents, etc, it's still a Vette. And while they are awsome cars there are two hundered trillion of them around here (seriously I have been tallying them). I like cars that are more unique and that don't have any brother or sister cars that are scattered throughout traffic every day. Not saying I would not take a Vette because I would, but given the opportunity I would take the GTR. Plus I think it looks nicer and is AWD.
