2001 jeep ch sport tranny dipstick wont seperate

I am doing a transmission fluid and filter change, I got the pan loose, then tried the dipstick (2 peice). After much turning twisting pulling it is about half way out, but wont seperate. In my last attempt I put a few bolts back into the pan, unbolted the dipstick bracket from the bellhousing and again yanked and pulled. Think Jack Sparrow when his sword was stuck in the first movie. Will heat work, or is there a gromet or something in there that would make things worse. Please help.

Yep, there's an o-ring inside. Since the junction opening faces up, it gets filled will all sorts of crud that jams the whole thing. If you have the bracket unbolted, you may be able to get the whole thing out from underneath. Then use some penetrating oil. Keep pulling and twisting.

Re: 2001 jeep ch sport tranny dipstick wont seperate

Yea, I had the same problem the first time I went to remove my pan. If you have the jeep jacked up quite high, you can pull the whole thing through the bottom. Then with it out, you can seperate it and clean it up.

Heat would be bad, and just make a melted mess. Might allow you to seperate it though, as long as you cleaned it up and replaced the ring.

Good luck.
