Re: hi everone
I just joined this forum but I'm not sure I'm in the right place- I belong to the GTO forum and want to ask the same question I asked there to you guys who knows Firebirds.
I'm on the verge of trading a 2005 GTO for a mint 68' 350 Firebird with a Hst 4 speed. I believe this car to be valued at 36000- and would appreciate any thoughts coming from you Bird men. I did own a 74' 455 Trans Am but it would be considered a class 3 classic. This 68 Bird is absolutely mint. Anyway all opinions are certainly welcome. |

I have separated you post from the previous thread you posted in, and have created your own thread for you. In the future, please do not post in someone else's thread asking an off-topic question. Please create a new thread pertaining to your question. Thank you, and welcome to the forums!

Re: Trading a 2005 GTO for a mint 68' 350 Firebird
well, I wouldn't trade a new car for an old car. it may be mint but will never be as good as your new GTO. if you are into classics and money is not your concern then go for it otherwise i say keep the GTO. not answer to your question but i had to mention my opinion

Ya I like some peoples description of mint ...............well at least it is clean . Not knocking your enthusiasim and if you know if fact EVERYTHING is MINT which includes all driveline components and fluids ,buy it and keep your new one as doodad says. I bought my`95 Mint firebird the only thing mint was the colour.........lol. but it was clean.

Re: Trading a 2005 GTO for a mint 68' 350 Firebird
A couple of things at work here. As another said, if you're into "classics", fine, but the '68 is nowhere NEAR the performance potential of the late GTO.
There is no such thing as a "Hurst 4-speed". The shifter was made by Hurst, and if the bar comning through the floor is round (as opposed to flat), it's original from Pontiac. The transmission is a Muncie (only 4-speed Pontiac used during that era). A 350 car won't demand the value a 400 car will, either. While not a bad performer, the 350 Pontiac is no match for a 350 Chevy OR a 400 Pontiac. That's all... Jim |

Keep your GTO. You never really know about 1st gens....ESPECIALLY Firebird first gens. They often become victim to the front end/rear swap that turns them into Camaros.

Re: Trading a 2005 GTO for a mint 68' 350 Firebird
I'm with everyone else. Keep your 05 unless you've got the scratch and are gonna get a daily to replace it. The 68, while a nice car if truely mint (IE numbers matching, etc) MIGHT be worth it, but not for me it wouldn't.
Throw $18-20k in cash on the table and see if he takes it. Otherwise I'd walk. Not too sure of the value of 68 Firebird (Pbody probably would though) but $36k for what you're looking at seems awfully high to me. |

Re: Trading a 2005 GTO for a mint 68' 350 Firebird
I'm going to go against the grain... if the car is mint and what it's said to be it's a good investment... what will your GTO be worth in 2-5 years? The firebird atleast will hold its value, if not increase in value.
