Import Builders

I'm really interested in the import scene and I'm planning on buying a Del Sol S in the near future (probably one that's been through a wreck where I can get it cheap and add my own aftermarket body kit). I have read up quite a bit on the CRV-Tec or LS-Vtec frankenstein engine, and I came across importbuilders.com. They sell a built LS-Vtec with several aftermarket internal parts (pistons, cams, etc). I was wondering if its worth buying it from them, or if its best to grab a B16A (or just buy the Del Sol VTEC) and a B20Z and just build it myself. What are the price differences and what would the performance differences be?

Me personally, I would go CRVTEC.....no replacement for displacement. There are several places you can send your block out to to get built or you can try to find a place in WY. I am lucky to have a reputable place near my house that I can drop the block off at when I get all the parts for my CRVTEC (and another car so I don't have to worry about turn around time. LSVTEC is a decent choice as well, but I want to make as much power as possible. A fully built CRVTEC is a beast, anywhere from 200whp to 250whp all motor is what I've seen depending on tuning, engine management(hondata, etc), and other stuff. In a del sol, that should be good for mid 12s pass easy.

It would probably be cheaper to buy a fully assembled block because labor is going to cost a lot, more than a $1000 to fully build a CRVTEC properly and most likely more than that, plus shipping (there and back). I plan on spending about $5000-6000 on the motor alone over about a year and half time, give or take and I'm sure I'll change my mind again down the road again soon.

why not get yourself a SR20DET motor and have 200HP and 200 TQ. They go for about 2K for the whole swap. Sure is a lot better than a torqueless b16a

Well in all essence, it is possible... but you would have one of the biggest wiring nightmares on your hands

Its not all about HORSEPOWER... and its not all about TORQUE...

TORQUE is what moves you -- but HORSEPOWER determines "how fast" you get to the power...

You could have a 10,000ft-lbs motor -- with 1hp, and you aint going anywhere fast :finger:

Damn kid!

What kind of specs are you looking for with the swap -- like do you want all kinds of goofy stuff like a B17 crank and custom pistons and yadda yadda or are you just looking for block w/ VTEC head and get it running (oil lines for the head squirters... etc)

I never said to put it in a Del Sol. I was thinking 240, because it would be a lot better car to build if you want something fast and still not spend a lot of $$$.
I think that the sr20DET is the best power for $ you can get for an import. But if you have to have a Delsol, go w/ B series. Just dont expect to be the fastest guy there. That will only make you equal w/ a GSR or SI.
Just my 2 cents

I didn't read all the posts, so I'm not sure if you were going to do it yourself or not, but I heard Import Builders is really good. That's probably where I'm going to get mine done, if I ever do it. Didn't he used to work at Atomic Performance?
