Just did back pads...pad fallin apart?
I recently did the rear pads on my 93Lumina and i drove it for about two weeks and it started making a strange noise so i took it apart and loooked at it...the outside pad in the caliper was starting to break off starting at the top...what would cause this? It was my first time doing brakes on this car.
Thanks. |

Re: Just did back pads...pad fallin apart?
Sounds like either the pad was somehow not seated fully in position, and the uneven stress on the backing plate cracked the lining, or else that caliper is dragging so bad it was just a heat failure.
You probably would have noticed the smell/smoke if the latter was the case, but not always. If you had any problem fitting the pad into position, or getting the loaded caliper to go back in position, then the first case is probably more likely.... |

Probally cheap pads too.Cheap brake pads are not the way to go,basically cheap is not better. All I hear are horror stories about cheap brake pads ones from AutoZone and advanced.Top of the line brake pads are the best and Wagner is one of the top of the line brake pads.

Yah there was a burning smell but i just thought maybe i got a lil grease on the rotor or something and it was quite hard to fit the caliper back on the rotor
