Is there a microchip for the E36's?

If so, what are the benefits of upgrading the microchip? How much does it cost?

Tks,

NC

I guess you mean for the engine? for performance increase?
If so then, if the car is before 1995 you can get replacement chips, if the car is 1996 on then you have to download an update to the software.

Is it worth it? good question! On smaller engines like my 2.0l I personally don't think it is worth it. On larger capacity engines maybe. But you really need to do air-intake and exhaust mods too, to make it worth while.

...

I have a 92 318i. 1.8L ... so I guess it wouldn't be worth it. More than performance increase, I'm actually looking for better fuel economy. :/

It loves to drink down that Premium.

I know what you mean, but the are so much fun to drive, you can not help putting your foot down too much!

I'm not sure about the four cylinder models, but the sixes apparently aren't too bad on economy for the amount of power they put out.

The 4 Cylinder does around 20MPG. Which really isn't too good. I'm in Canada, so we go by KM's anyway... I'm not sure what the conversion would be though.

The main reason I chose the 4cyl over the 6 is for fuel economy. But I mean, it's just drinkinig it down. I'm wondering if maybe there's something wrong with the fuel regulator. (which is known to be faulty in 92 and 93's)..

take care,

NC

I see what you mean.
I just had a look in my Owners Handbook to see what the fuel consumption should be, but unfortunately it does not have the 318i specs (values not available at time of going to press),
but the specs for the 320i are

Urban driving
Litres/100 km 12.9 -5 Speed, 14.6 Auto
miles/gal. 21.9 -5 Speed, 19.3 Auto

Out of Town driving
Litres/100 km 6.7 -5 Speed, 7.5 Auto
miles/gal. 42.2 -5 Speed, 37.7 Auto

Overall
Litres/100 km 9.0 -5 Speed, 10.1 Auto
miles/gal. 31.4 -5 Speed, 28.0 Auto
(These are for a euro spec car, 1996 model)

So if the fours are supposed to be more efficient, then maybe there is something not right with your car.

Hope you can find the fault

Cheers
