I have a 1988 735i that is about to be turned into Santa Barbara County for pollution control credit. The county will pay me $800 for the car as is. I have had the car for the last five years and have let both of my kids use it as their commuter car, thus the run down condition. It has plenty of issues and I just do not feel it is worth the time and money needed to restore it. At the moment it has just blown the head gasket which is what was wrong with it when I got it. It needs a paint job, interior is very worn out (seats ripped and worn, headliner comming off, dash wood inlays falling off, cracks in dash, etc.). Mechaniclly it has a new radiator, new brakes all around including front parking brakes, new rear muffler, new rear tail lights, was running rough before the head gasket went. Other issues: drivers window will not roll all the way up due to broken gear teeth on crank lever, AC/Heater does not work correctly even though I have installed new heater fan, rear of car has slight body damage along with the left rear fender, radio and on board computer do not work, continually overheats and a few other misc. problems.
The reason for the post is to allow anyone out there a chnace at taking the whole car as is for the $800 I would get for the state or sell off any parts you all may need. I used this message board to fix numerous issuse with the car over the years and would like to be able to give something back.
