what to do???

Ok, so I got this spiffy new '99 LTZ and it came from Indiana so there was no front license plate bracket on it. However, living in Illinois, I am required by (stupid) law to have one on the front. After searching ebay I finally found one, however the guys on there wanted like $20 for it....it's used!!! I went to my favorite salvage yard and picked one up for $2. I've had the car for almost a month now and I'm wondering what you guys think I should do. Obviously putting a front plate makes the front end look bad. Should I leave it off until I get pulled over or should I just go ahead and obey this dumb law??? As of now I have the plate in my front window. I really don't want to drill three holes in my bumper. However, I've been told that I'd be better off to just throw that thing in the trunk! They said that if a cop saw the plate in the window, it shows that I obviously know that I'm supposed to have the plate on the front, and I'd be more likely to get pulled over. I could just throw the plate and frame in the trunk and play "ignorant of the law." I know this is a trivial question; but just thought I'd ask your opinion.

Well, here in Ontario we are also required by law to have our front plates on our cars. I've seen many a lumina, LTZ, or Monte carlo with the plate on it and they look fine.

The law is only stupid to people who do not understand it and why it is there. I mean no disrespect, but police officers know why they are there and don't think it is dumb.

However, I would play dumb and throw the plate and stuff in the trunk. If you got it in your front window they may also nail ya with another ticket because it is a "safety" hazard to have it there.

If you get pulled over, just be real nice and play dumb. "ohhhh, I didn't know that, there wasn't anywhere to put it in the front, so I didn't know. I'll go get one from the dealer right away." Probably will get away with no fine. Thats how I would play it.

Re: what to do???

or just throw it in the trunk and say "jee, that fell off over a month ago, i didnt think it was a law, i've been meaning to fix it but havn't" I dont think my car looks bad with it on the front. I got the chrome bowtes around the plates and always keep the bracket armoralled so its always black as can be.

Re: what to do???

what's the big deal about putting it on the front? it's a lumina buddy, they're not meant to be sexy, flashy cars. and trying to tell the cop that "oh it was there before" wont fly cuz there's a good chance that he's not an idiot and will realize there are no holes in your bumper.

i say just put the license plate on there, most cops won't care if you really were or are just faking ignorance to the law. the law is the law and it is your responsibility as a driver to be aware of the laws that govern you.

Re: what to do???

Okay. You all make valid arguements. I have to agree with richtazz, in that I don't need to give the cops a reason to pull me over. I've been good so far (never pulled over) KNOCK ON WOOD!!! I don't want to just break the law because it is the law. Oh and quteasabutten, I think they are very flashy cars. I think anyone with an LTZ would agree they are fairly sporty looking, especially when compared to a stock lumina. Thanks guys...and gals for the feedback. vbmenu_register("postmenu_4230138", true);

You must note that the differences between an LS and an LTZ are too many to name. Engine different: 3.8 to 3.1 Horsepower 200 to 160. Sports tuned suspension. The physical differences are more obvious. Front and rear fascias are reminisicent of a monte carlo (in the LTZ version). Rims different. LTZ's have impala style rims. The mirrors are painted the same color as the body in the LTZ. There are still more differences...too many to name. They are almost two totally different cars. You can hate your LS, but I love love love my LTZ. One hell of a sleeper sedan. " It's a trompin some bitch"
